About the Role

The Banana Republic Social Media team drives the brand expression across all social media platforms with a deep focus on community acquisition, retention, and engagement. They oversee the launch and execution of marketing initiatives that support the brand's overall marketing objectives, and often times spearhead new initiatives to support brand goals of acquiring a younger customer demographic.

The Director of Global Social Media will lead a team of creative, strategic and community-focused marketers, who are regularly interpreting business needs, and finding creative ways to activate on social. This team keeps a very close eye on pop culture, trends and innovation.

The person in this role serves as the primary point of contact and is directly embedded with the Brand & Creative teams. The ideal candidate must have strong communication, leadership and influencing skills, with the ability to be flexible and nimble, regularly pivoting in new directions based on the brand's evolving needs. This role reports to the VP Marketing.

What You'll Do

  • Build and evolve Social Media strategies across all existing organic social channels, while keeping an eye on new, emerging platforms
  • Continue to grow community of over 4.3MM, with an emphasis on attracting new followers on TikTok and Instagram
  • Own social creative strategy, while partnering closely with Director, Creative to ensure content is platform-appropriate and brand-building.
  • Lead the social and creative team in monthly social activation brainstorms, overseeing/owning process from concepting through to execution
  • Develop strategies to acquire a new customer demographic (Millennials and Gen Z)
  • Drive influencer strategy and oversee influencer agency relationships. Ideally, you also have a personal rolodex of influencer talent and an eye for determining the right partners
  • Regularly engage with senior leadership team to communicate strategy and plans across priority social platforms
  • Provide direction and oversight for international (Japan), franchise markets and Banana Republic Factory social teams
  • Plan and execute social-first photo/video shoots at least once per quarter, in partnership with Director, Creative.
  • Manage US organic social media budget, balancing costs to fund influencer activations, social-first shoots and cultural moment celebrations
  • Liaise with Marketing, PR, Media, Merchandising, Customer Service, Corporate Communications, Gap Inc & Customer Belonging. Regularly communicate strategy, seasonal plans and manage incoming requests from cross-functional partners
  • Evolve and grow our employee Social Media Ambassador Program


Who You Are

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years of experience building social media programs for a large, global brand (luxury or fashion experience strongly preferred)
  • Equal parts creative and strategic, you'll balance the needs of maintaining luxury-focused brand positioning, while keeping a close eye on content performance
  • A strong editorial eye. You are comfortable and experienced owning a brand's social creative identity and social tone of voice
