The Payroll Manager will manage the Payroll and HR functions, including payroll processing, compliance audits and full administration. This role works closely with the Payroll Specialist and the Benefits Manager to ensure accuracy for each payroll batch. This person will act as the main point of contact for any questions on payroll related topics. The ideal candidate will be skilled with excel and ADP WFN and have great communications skills.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for overseeing the company payroll process and administration
  • Ensures accurate calculation of wages, tax withholdings and company deductions.
  • Prepares statistical reports and analyzes data
  • Ensures proper governmental reporting and compliance for Federal, State and Unemployment taxes
  • Process, audit, balance and close bi-monthly, multi-state payroll in HRIS System
  • Maintain HRIS System to include creating new positions, multi-state tax jurisdictions through ADP Smart Compliance, and GL interface
  • Manage all pay period payroll functions related to analysis, input, and reconciliation of time keeping, new hires, terms, salary changes, promotions, manual checks, deductions, and bonus payouts 
  • Analyze employee changes including federal, state, and local tax set-up, direct deposit info, benefit contributions, mandated garnishments, and other deductions 
  • Register entities in appropriate payroll related tax jurisdictions and ensure accuracy 
  • Partner with payroll and benefit vendors and/or other third parties in audit work
  • Respond to unemployment claims, providing detailed verifications
  • Respond to employment verifications with detailed payroll and employment information
  • Act as a partner to management to address and resolve payroll issues with employees 
  • Review annual W-2 forms and 1099 forms and submit for processing
  • Execute monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll reports as needed 

 

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills required, to include Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook  
  • Experience with ADP 
  • Strong customer service skills  
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly to all levels of an organization
  • Strong understanding of federal and state labor laws and regulations.   

 

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or related field or related experience  
  • 5+ years of Payroll experience a must
  • People Manager experience a must
  • Customer Service experience a plus
  • ADP certification a plus
