  • As Lead Sales Expansion (m/w/d) you will drive growth by developing our expansion strategies so we can penetrate fast and win big in key cities, closing deals with retailers, signing up their retail stores so that they can sell to customers via our platform. You will rapidly build dense retail networks in key European metropolitan areas. Your main goal will be to deploy a scalable end to end acquisition process through a combination of locally and centrally steered activities, to rapidly secure market share. You are part of one of the most innovative Zalando teams, reinventing retail: Online-to-Offline.

  • Research, plan and execute. You will own and develop the mid and long-term strategy together with the end to end operational process for winning market share in defined European cities maximising rapid localised retail network growth
  • Be first and fast. Set up cities for success with steering from our Berlin HQ with your central team and locally via City Managers, testing and creating different approaches as you identify new cities, methods, success levers and local partner
  • Hire and lead the best. Build and lead a team of expansion managers to successfully source, launch and set-up new cities, and acquisition methods for success across all of Europe
  • Build alliances. You will be the ideal role model securing commitment to the strategies and targets you develop. You will also promote a collaborative spirit with the central and international sales teams as you provide frameworks, guidance and consultation to Regional, Country Managers and our Sales Leads on their city focus. Your key partner will be the marketing team
  • Own your success. You will work closely with Connected Retail sales leadership who will challenge and support you to achieve the required impact. You have a great deal of freedom in choosing strategies to achieve your goals and, if necessary, adjust course as needed
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in expansion or operations, scaling teams across departments, ideally within an operationally complex e-commerce, logistics or retail business.
  • Proven track-record of operating in a high-growth and fast-paced start-up environment. Result-focused attitude and a highly motivated personality that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to learn fast and adapt strategies and tactics to adapt to new markets, changing circumstances, most importantly multitask: maintaining focus while managing a variety of different complex workstreams
  • Excellent Communication and Leadership skills - able to lead, coach and develop a team of international launchers and expansion managers
