About the Role

In this role, you'll be joining a Communications team responsible for driving internal and external communications strategy which provides clarity and confidence in, demonstrates progress against, and reinforces the power of Gap Inc.'s Platform, which focuses on customer experience and omnichannel capabilities, technology, business diversification; and end-to-end supply chain.
As we accelerate new capabilities at Gap Inc. at an enterprise-level, and across our portfolio of purpose-led, billion-dollar brands, you'll work to tell these stories and bring Gap Inc.'s transformation journey to life with media, employees, shareholders, and strategic partners. With a bias for action, a knack for creativity, and the discretion to challenge the status quo, you'll create, own and execute end-to-end communications plans, craft multi-angled content tailored for a variety of internal and external channels, build and nurture key media relationships, and act as communications counsel and advisor for senior Gap Inc. leaders - all while keeping your finger on the pulse to evaluate metrics and pivot accordingly.
You'll report to the Platform Communications lead, and areas of business you'll support include Global Supply Chain; Product Management; Customer Analytics & Insights; Technology; Real Estate; and Store Development and Operations.

What You'll Do

  • Staying closely aligned with company goals and progress towards those goals, you'll drive and contribute to the Platform communications playbook and plan, acting as a central point of contact across the Communications team.
  • Develop compelling content for external and internal channels, inclusive of press materials (press releases, talking points, social posts, etc.); presentations (for internal Town Halls or external speaking engagements); articles or op-eds; and employee-facing content for initiative-, culture- or HR-driven moments such as incentive or rewards programs, employee survey results, etc. Writing effectively and creatively is a must.
  • Maintain close relationships with key functional leaders and internal partners and be in-the-know on company progress and proofpoints which yield Gap Inc. transformation storytelling opportunities.
  • Act as communications counsel for senior leaders and their function initiatives; advise and support leaders on appropriate strategy for internal and external announcements, and/or external speaking engagements or presentations, panel discussions, roundtables, etc.
  • Maintain bold and creative thinking in your approach; be able to assess what works and what doesn't, and be confident in recommending new strategies or ways of working in order to drive results and positively impact Gap Inc.'s reputation, and the reputation(s) of its billion-dollar brands.
  • Be proactive and flexible while working across teams and time zones to drive results.
  • Find the story. Keeping your ear to the ground on employee sentiment and engagement, your eyes and ears open for digesting the news and understanding what's happening across the broader retail industry, and your pen in hand, you'll be consistently at the ready to create and pitch relevant and timely Transformation stories in support of company goals.
  • Build and nurture media relationships, working directly with reporters to pitch Gap Inc. news or respond to inquiries.

Who You Are

  • 4-6 years proven track record in corporate and/ or brand communications, inclusive of external and internal communications, preferably in-house.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or related field
  • You enjoy the challenge of simplifying complex + technical information to create a compelling story which gets to the heart of what people need to know and why.
  • Comfortable interacting with senior leaders (VP & above) and providing sound communications counsel to these leaders directly, 1:1.
  • Experienced in pitching journalists and reporters and engaging with media 1:1 for inquiries.
  • Independent and proactive with the ability to take high-level direction and execute with minimal oversight.
  • Passionate about brainstorming and executing on new ideas and tactics that take into consideration target audiences, company strategies, shifts in the economy and industry trends.
  • Demonstrable project management skills, including ability to manage several campaigns and initiatives/events at once, prioritize, work under tight deadlines and pressure and deliver for multiple internal stakeholders, all while working across time zones as needed.
