The global haircare market represents approximately 25% of the $300 billion beauty market and has experienced growth acceleration during 2020 with more than 50% of consumers choosing clean and sustainable haircare products. Enabled by its proprietary Lab-to-Market synthetic biology platform, Amyris has developed and produces some of the leading clean ingredients to lead the transformation of the haircare industry to a clean and sustainable future.

 

The JVN haircare brand launched Sept 2021 and offers unparalleled ingredient efficacy, clean formulas and packaging, with genuine inclusivity. The brand focuses on addressing hair health needs, will feature a proprietary Amyris ingredient, hemisqualane, a powerfully hydrating silicone-replacement that is effective across all hair textures.

 

JVN is seeking a Senior Director, Global Product Marketing and Strategy to lead the strategic launch of new products and management of the existing product portfolio, as well as the core messaging, positioning and marketing for selling product. This individual will be a key player in shaping the future of JVN’s product strategy and portfolio, and drive a profitable business to grow the brand. This role reports to the VP/GM. 

Responsibilities:

    • Product Strategy and Portfolio Management: 
    • Ownership of the 36 month rolling product launch calendar and manage the execution of plans for new product introductions 
    • Responsible for new product launches, as well as current product optimizations, sampling, promotions and kits/sets
    • Lead new product strategy, including Concept presentations and Charters to show justification for investment on new product initiatives and assortment optimizations, and present to senior management for approval 
    • Work with Product Development and Packaging to propose new product concepts that fit with the Brand DNA while incorporating trends and gap assessments
    • Work with Sales to propose and manage promotional kit/set strategy, development and value/margin analysis (acquisition sets, value sets, holiday) as well as sampling strategy
    • Analysis of market research, consumer research and sales data (NPD, Mintel, Internal)
    • Initial financial planning and support volume forecasting; pricing strategy; analyzing sales and margins to ensure profit, not just revenue
    • New Product Innovation and Promotion:
    • Develop Product Concepts with unique and differentiated positioning based on customer feedback, internal and retail partner feedback, competitive assessment, trends and research 
    • Lead cross-functional teams (Product Development, Operations, Packaging and Creative) to identify product and packaging benchmarks, desired product features, ingredient stories, evaluate submissions, etc. 
    • Ownership of sustainability as it relates to product (i.e. vetting ingredients and packaging with PD, key messaging on all marketing channels)
    • Work with Product Development and Regulatory to recommend desired product claims for efficacy testing, and to recommend final claims 
    • Work with Sales and all marketing channels to identify promotional product needs (SWAG, GWPs, accessories) and work with Packaging and Operations to source and develop
    • Product Marketing and Creative Messaging:
    • Establish the core messaging and marketing for selling product, including how to communicate clearly to consumers with concise, simple, clear product marketing
    • Owns charters and project kickoff briefs to Operations, Creative, US and Global Go-to Marketing and Sales for new product initiatives, copy & creative messaging briefs for naming and packaging, final SRP/values, and ongoing follow through to launch. 
    • Prepare final product marketing presentations that include the product features, benefits, claims, ingredients, price, sizes and packaging to support Marketing, Education, Sales, Customer Service and retailer presentations, and Initiate and communicate updates for all new product launches 
    • Manage retail marketing partnerships across global partners (i.e. Sephora, SpaceNK, etc.)

Required Qualifications:

    • 10+ years minimum of product management, product marketing, or global marketing/brand management experience in haircare
    • Moves easily and comfortably between quantitative analytics and marketing creativity
    • Experience in marketing for selling product, including how to communicate clearly to consumers with concise, simple, clear product marketing
    • Experience managing/mentoring direct reports and building/leading teams
    • Ability to motivate and influence cross-functional teams and stakeholders across the organization to execute projects/programs.
    • Ability to think strategically or tactically in different situations
    • Strong work ethic with a strong efficiency orientation
    • Must be organized, detail oriented, resourceful, and able to juggle multiple projects at once
    • Ability to work both independently, and be a strong team player with cross-functional teams in a fast moving/changing environment
    • Creative and resourceful problem solving, and ability to change course when projects stall
    • Energetic, self-motivated, and the ability to act with a sense of urgency, intensity and integrity
    • Deep fluency and skill with Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word 
    • Experience with Mintel, NPD and other research data
    • Adaptability is required as we are a small organization; job scope evolves as business needs evolve
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Presentation skills and storytelling are a must
    • Ability to travel 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications:

    • MBA in Business or Marketing preferred
    • Strong knowledge of the global skincare market, with a focus on the US and in “clean beauty” preferred
