INTRODUCTION

Founded in 1856 by Thomas Burberry, Burberry is a global luxury brand with a distinctly British attitude. We are a global business with an extensive network of both owned and franchised stores across EMEIA, Asia Pacific and Americas. We are digital pioneers, and innovative technology underpins every aspect of our business, from product design to distribution and marketing. We believe that modern luxury means being socially and environmentally responsible; this mindset is core to our business and key to our long-term success.

JOB PURPOSE

Burberry is making a major investment in expanding our data and analytics capability. Over the last few years, we've created a global omni-channel single-customer view, built an outstanding analytics platform and developed a small but highly effective digital analytics and data science team. We've built a great capability in the digital part of our business and we're now ready to build on these foundations to make a quantum leap forward in the sophistication and breadth of data-inspired decision-making across the whole of Burberry. The fashion industry hasn't historically been at the forefront of data and analytics innovation but, at Burberry, we aim to change this...

You'll be joining a rapidly growing team with a hugely ambitious, well-funded and exciting roadmap in a role with great scope to shape our data strategy. You'll join us at the start of the next stage on our journey, so you'll have the opportunity to influence our plans as well as deliver them. You'll be implementing and using the most modern tools in the market with limited/no legacy technology and tools holding you back. You'll have a rare opportunity to apply analytics and data science in a creatively-driven business - combining art and science to create beautiful things. You'll be joining a team that is already using advanced techniques like deep learning, machine vision and AI to drive real value for our business. You'll be working for an organisation that is optimistic, positive, tolerant and respectful but also audacious, ambitious and driven. You will be working as part of an amazing Data Technology function that is a true partner in delivering our strategy. You'll be part of a team that is passionate about, and invests heavily in, training and development. And finally, you'll be working on a global scale but in a company small enough that everyone can have their voice heard and make a difference.

Does that sound exciting? If so, we're recruiting a large number of roles and this is one of them ...

We are recruiting a Business Analyst - Analytics to join our expanding team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Business Analyst will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Technical Literacy: You will be responsible for capturing requirements from Data Scientists, Engineers, Developers and Analysts with your understanding of data modelling, architecture and statistical concepts, as well as less technical stakeholders from across our business.
  • Agile Expert: You will be comfortable managing a complex, dynamic backlog of cross-functional, multi-project requirements in a fast-moving team. You will also be able to evangelise the benefits and value of Agile ways of working within project teams.
  • Strategy: Reporting to the Product Manager, you will shape the Analytics Platform roadmap and services from your deep understanding of our community needs and their ways of working. You will also facilitate quarterly roadmap reviews and demonstrations to ensure alignment between teams.
  • Transformation: You will proactively drive process improvement across the Analytics lifecycle to evolve our data and technology services, to reduce analytics time-to-value.
  • Leadership: You will lead a small team of high performing Business Analysts through an SI partner with your leadership experience.
  • Self-Development: You'll be responsible for staying up to date with industry trends and developments across e-commerce, marketing, supply chain & digital as well as ongoing awareness of the technical skills within our Analytics community.

PERSONAL PROFILE

A successful candidate will have:

  • Influencing Skills: You'll have the ability to influence, engage with, and respond to stakeholders with credibility and impact.
  • Creativity: You'll be an ideas person - you will be a creative thinker, have a hunger for novelty and newness with a keen interest in emerging technologies and analytical techniques - alongside the ability and grit required to turn good ideas into reality.
  • Collaboration Skills: You're able to work collaboratively with others - understanding, respecting and leveraging different perspectives, skills and objectives to make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.
  • Task Management: You'll be able to prioritise and communicate to stakeholders what you're delivering and when, reliably and independently.
  • Self-Motivation: You will be driven to learn about and understand the business and, within your area of influence, the impact your work could have to its continued success.
  • Value Focus: You're relentlessly focussed on value delivery and, taking an evidence-led approach, will always focus on the commercial value that your work can deliver.
  • Communication: You'll invest in making sure that the work you do can be leveraged by as wide a set of stakeholders as possible and will proactively create and seek opportunities to share your work as widely as possible.
  • Curiosity & Empathy: You love to learn and this curiosity will lead you to a deep understanding of and empathy for your stakeholders and their business objectives, needs and constraints.

Required experience and education:

  • You'll have extensive experience as a Technical Business Analyst gained from analytics or infrastructure focused technology projects or products.
  • You will be experienced working in one or more Agile delivery methodologies (such as Scrum or Kanban).
  • You'll have solid technical skills and an awareness of data and analytics software (such as Databricks, Dataiku and Tableau)
  • You must have good hands-on programming experience in SQL or Python.
  • You'll have very strong communication and written skills that combines a keen eye for detail with the ability to tell the bigger story.
  • Cloud infrastructure (including AWS and Azure) experience is desirable.
