Job Description:

Dinnerware/Hardgoods Designer

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 6 years of experience working in the field of home goods with industry experience in dishware design. The candidate must have experience designing decals for dishware products, and experience in designing glassware, and paper products for giftware and tabletop is a plus. The candidate must have strong drawing and painting skills in order to guide students in rendering products in perspective and to scale using traditional media. The candidate must have knowledge of historical and contemporary design and color trends in the home furnishing and product design industry.

This position is in person at FIT.

Requirements:

Specific Competencies
  • Six (6) years of experience working in the field of home goods with industry experience in dishware design.
  • Strong drawing and painting skills.
  • Ability to render products and surface designs in perspective and to scale using traditional media.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree required. Minimum of six (6) years professional experience as a textile home goods designer. Presentation of strong portfolio showcasing professional work done for the textile and home goods, or decorative markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

College level teaching experience is preferred. Strong preference will be given to candidates with digital skills and software skills utilized by textile design and home good professionals.

This position will be required to constantly read and comprehend, occasionally perform calculations, constantly verbally communicate, frequently analyze, and constantly write. The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.

Additional Information:

This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in [Fall 2022]. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled.
