Job Description:

The School of Graduate Studies seeks a full-time faculty member in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing and Management with demonstrated creative and business skills in the
beauty industry across a broad range of interdisciplinary business management fields, and a strong focus in marketing and/or leadership.

The new faculty member will serve an essential role in the expansion and implementation of new graduate curricular offerings in the degree curriculum and executive education formats and benchmarking those offerings against industry and academic best practices and will identify opportunities for research projects with industry. Preference will be given to candidates with global expertise, mentorship to emerging mid-career to executive-level talent, as well as a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in the beauty industry.

The new faculty member's responsibilities will include teaching, curriculum development, recruitment, and cultivation of industry and alumni partnerships. The successful candidate will participate in department and college-wide work and shared governance. The candidate will have teaching and/or corporate training experience, a record of scholarly or industry
research and contributions to the field that include some or all of the following: publications, presentations, lectures, and involvement in professional activities. The candidate will
demonstrate the ability to mentor student/faculty research projects and publication-level classroom deliverables.

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a variety of assessment tools for student work to capture the wide range of learning styles in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate the ability to incorporate interdisciplinary programs to reflect the ways in which the industry works in the cosmetics and fragrance business.
  • Cultivate and maintain connections with the beauty industry to allow for the integration of new professional practices into the curriculum.

Learning Enrichment
  • Demonstrate the willingness to embrace new forms of pedagogy including online teaching, blended classes, and experiential learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to foster and cultivate writing, research and critical thinking skills in the classroom.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of team building skills, and the role of creativity and innovation in strategic business planning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide platforms for the development of student presentation capabilities.
  • Demonstrate a passion for the cosmetics and fragrance industry with the ability to convey this excitement to students.

Professionalism

  • Participate in global conferences for the cosmetics and fragrance industries.
  • Leverage and maintain a professional network of alumni and industry experts who will serve as a resource for internships, mentors, curriculum development, guest speakers and placement opportunities for graduates.
  • Demonstrate currency and engagement in the primary teaching disciplines and industry trends.

Technology
  • Demonstrate knowledge and application of recent technologies to enhance learning and teaching environment.
  • Incorporate programs supported by the SUNY Learning Network (SLN) platform in the classroom and online learning.
  • Leverage professional development and educational opportunities offered to/for FIT faculty, and through industry.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have a graduate degree (MBA, MPS, MPA, MSc, MPhil, MEd, JD, PhD, ScD, DPhil, EdD or equivalent) and relevant beauty industry experience and a demonstrated record in teaching and/or relevant corporate learning and development/training experience. It is essential that the candidate have the ability to teach a range of courses/disciplines in the MPS program.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a record of demonstrated success in beauty industry training, curriculum development and presentations and/or college-level teaching

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This position will be required to constantly read and comprehend, occasionally perform calculations, constantly verbally communicate, frequently analyze, and constantly write. The
working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.

Additional Information:

Hiring Salary: $69,475 per year; per CBA, the salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience.
