Full-Time Faculty Position in Film and Media Studies, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Job Description:

The Film, Media and Performing Arts Department seeks a forward-looking film and media faculty member with broad interests and experience. Teaching responsibilities will include history and theory of Film and Media, as well as a wide range of program electives. Desirable areas of expertise include African-American, Latin American, Asian, and/or transnational film and media, reflecting recent trends in the field towards a decentralized perspective

The ideal candidate will be prepared to engage actively with colleagues and students in the various operational aspects of conducting a small-scale program that blends production and academic study.

The successful candidate will be involved in curriculum development, pedagogy, and program facilities and equipment, as well as outreach to expand the program's visibility. Responsibilities include co-organizing student screenings and the FIT Film+Media Screening Series, as well as collaborating with the Offices of International Programs and Career and Internship Services to develop opportunities for students.

The new faculty member will have college-level teaching experience, engagement in scholarly and professional activities, and will contribute to the department, School, and College and beyond the classroom through committee and college-wide service.

• Demonstrate an understanding of the evolving nature of the film and media discipline and the educational environment.
• Enrich student learning with an emphasis on engagement in current developments as well as historical perspectives, fully leveraging York City's resources and cultural diversity.
• Cultivate and foster the development of critical thinking with regard to all aspects of film/media study and production.

Professionalism

• Maintain active involvement and currency in the scholarly film and media discipline and community, through research, conference presentations and scholarly/creative publications.
• Capitalize on opportunities to introduce students to film and media communities and facilitate their movement into the ever-expanding film and media industries.

Technology

• Demonstrate an understanding, and engagement and integration of developing technologies, into pedagogy and campus-wide exhibition practices.
• Incorporate instructional and multi-media technology into delivery of course material and learning experiences.
• Appropriately utilize current technology to communicate with, and engage students in, learning outside of the classroom.
• Demonstrate an awareness of adaptive assistive devices and technologies available to foster inclusiveness of special needs students and students with different learning styles.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An earned Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies or in related field(s); evidence of scholarly activity; college-level teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Specialization in one of the following areas highly desirable: African-American, Latin American, Asian, and/or transnational film and media.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This position will be required to continuously read and comprehend, occasionally perform calculations, constantly verbally communicate, frequently analyze, and constantly write. The working conditions for this position will be any combination of the classroom, lab, and/or office space. Certain roles may be required to handle machinery and chemicals. The physical requirement for this position will require occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasionally lifting 10 lbs. or less.

Additional Information:

Hiring Salary: $69,475 per year; per CBA, the salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience.
