Job Description:

Under the supervision of the curator of costume and accessories and with advisement from the senior conservator, the education and collections assistant will work closely with the museum's study collection and permanent collections. Primary responsibilities include conducting classroom tours for FIT groups and other constituents, organizing classes that use study collection materials, and collections management for the study collection.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct classroom tours on the history of fashion using museum study collection materials, including evening and weekend tours.
  • Conduct tours of museum exhibitions in the Fashion and Textile History Gallery and the Special Exhibitions Gallery, including evening and weekend tours.
  • Prepare materials from the study collections for classes and classroom setup. Responsible for security and proper handling of objects and their return to storage.
  • Organize and maintain materials in the Museum's costume and accessory study collections.
  • Conduct searches in TMS to assist undergraduates, graduate students, and visiting scholars with research requests.
  • Help to process new acquisitions through cataloging objects in The Museum System (TMS).

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience working in costume collections, including familiarity with conservation methods for handling clothing and accessory objects.
  • Must have excellent communication skills and knowledge of fashion history and terminology.

The position is on campus, primarily in an office environment.

Additional Information:

Days/Hours: 35 hours per week, in person; days, evenings and weekends; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
Salary Schedule 89
Hiring Salary: $46,780 per year
