About the Role

The GM of Canada will be responsible for leading the business activities for the Canada market for Old Navy stores and online. Individual will lead an organization of Headquarters employees responsible for driving retail sales in an established market for Old Navy & Gap Inc. with opportunity to accelerate growth for the enterprise. General management role with responsibility for wide range of line and functional support departments.

What You'll Do

IMPACT & SCOPE:

Position has responsibility for setting the direction for the Canada market. Leads strategic initiatives including market positioning, inventory management, commercial planning, business development, retail store expansion, marketing and merchandising. Responsible for building an organization that will deliver against stretch performance objectives. This will require significant leadership in leading, retaining and training skilled talent.

Manages direct reports across Buying, Allocation, Site Merchandising and Strategy and Operations teams. Shared services staff and critical partner to Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, Store Operations, and in-country Field teams. Significant interaction with Old Navy Global leaders based in San Francisco.

Job Responsibilities

Deliver operating plan objectives
  • Achieve budgeted earnings, free cash flow and economic profit targets
  • Manage expenses within budgeted levels
  • Drive retail omni performance by improving comp, traffic and customer experience metrics

Deliver growth strategy objectives
  • Develop, lead and deliver a sustainable long-term plan for growth, visitation and profitability for the country.
  • Lead Gap Inc. efforts to accelerate market growth through omni channel and cross brand initiatives

Deliver on people strategy goals
  • Develop, retain and attract the best people for each position
  • Improve employee job satisfaction and culture
  • Develop senior leadership team and drive team performance

GUIDANCE:

Required to manage their own priorities and set their own work objectives against a range of broad project objectives to achieve pre-defined and expected outcomes. Provides guidance to their direct reports. Guidance sought from others would be higher-level strategy or philosophical issues. Uses experience and judgment to make complex decisions and provides guidance for others when established procedures will not apply.

PROBLEM SOLVING, ANALYSIS & DECISION MAKING:

Evaluates complex situations using multiple sources of information. Required to make judgments based on the analysis of factual and qualitative information. Will demonstrate a high degree of original and creative thinking.

  • Ability to effectively balance strategy, operating, customer and employee objectives across functional areas

  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and initiatives in evolving market
  • Understanding of brand building , consumer insight, and product pipelines processes

2) Minimum educational level:
  • Undergraduate (Bachelor's Equivalent) degree; MBA preferable

3) Minimum experience:
  • General management responsibility for multi-site retailer
  • Fashion/apparel expertise
  • Experience with leading retail business in the Canadian consumer market

4) Other requirements
  • Available for periodic domestic and international travel
