JOB PURPOSE

As a member of the IT Finance team, this role is responsible for effective finance business partnering to multiple IT VPs including Commercial IT, IT Retail, IT Digital and IT Product & Supply Chain. You will be ensuring a smooth delivery of the month-end close including reporting and explanation of variances / results to central groups as well as Regional finance and regional IT teams. In addition to the day to day duties, you will have the opportunity to engage in strategic projects to further create value within the IT Function and broader finance teams.

The role requires a commercial understanding as well as the ability to deliver logical and well thought out analysis. You will continuously seek to improve processes, controls and the quality of deliverables. With a number of stakeholders and competing priorities, it will be necessary to prioritise effectively and communicate clearly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Partnering 

  • Key supporting business partner with the IT Senior Finance Manager acting as a key stakeholder in their decision-making process.  
  • Foster a strong partnership mind-set between Finance and budget holders to provide analysis, challenge and insight on commercial finance matters and strategies - help to pro-actively address areas that may not have been previously considered. 
  • Work alongside the IT and Finance teams to be able to provide a range of analysis activities to enable budget holders to manage and optimise their expenditure. 
  • Aggregate analysis and feedback to share with the management and corporate teams  


Business Performance Management and Decision Support 

  • Establish processes for a smooth delivery of the month-end close and liaise with Burberry Business Services to ensure that all journal entries and accounting are accurately completed. 
  • Continuous critical review of ways of workings and processes around recharges of people cost to projects, activation of assets and depreciation impact as well as identify opportunities for improvements in BAU process and controls. 
  • Prepare and review P&Ls and all financial reporting to ensure accuracy and presentation in line with business requirements (actuals, forecast, budget)


Planning Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Provide the function supported with strong budget management through the planning process. Special focus on the Portfolio demand (Capex and Opex) and phasing of project spend and delivery. 
  • Champion the People cost (Burberry Employees or Contractors) recharge process to project Capex and Opex.
  • Provide strong variance analysis informing stakeholders of material movements with rationale 
  • Supports the continuous improvement of planning, budgeting including rolling forecast. 


Governance and Controls 

  • Ensure adherence to governance controls and audit recommendations. 
  • Ensure appropriate financial rigour is applied on all key investment decisions  
  • Ensure the internal IT cost classification is applied while certifying all new business cases going live the correct authorisation in line with the company approval limits. 


PERSONAL PROFILE

  • Part-Qualified or Qualified accountant ACA/CIMA or equivalent
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills with experience of building and working with complex models and large data sets
  • Focusses on continuous process improvement, and driving efficiencies
  • Demonstrates a commercial mind-set, and understanding of business
  • Ability to build strong relationships, both with the wider Finance team globally and throughout the business
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis or similar role or exposure within a large, listed, multinational company
  • Working within a multicurrency environment; understanding the impact of movements in exchange rates on reported results.
  • Proven track record of delivering process improvements.
  • Experience of BPC, an advantage.
