At Self-Portrait we are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Fabric Testing Technologist to join the Technical and Product Development team

As Fabric Testing Technologist at self-portrait you will work directly with the Technical Manager, Garment Techs and Product Developers from SMS stage to production.  

The ideal applicant must have previous fabric technologist experience working for a premium brand or high street retailer at an established level and looking for the next step in your career. You must have experience conducting and chasing test reports, working with overseas factories, and up to date with REACH compliance and regulations. You must be I.T proficient, have excellent knowledge of bulk fabric testing, garment construction, wash-care labels and the life cycle of a garment.

There is a lot of invaluable experience to be learnt as part of our small team, so this is a great opportunity for the right candidate.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant previous experience working for a premium brand or high street retailer
  • Experience reading fabric/mill reports
  • Experience working with far east factories
  • Maintaining good relationships and communication with our supply base Tenacious, assertive and determined attitude with excellent attention to detail
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Dedicated, hardworking and committed person willing to progress as the company grows

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advising factories what base and bulk test reports are needed per style every season
  • Managing critical path to ensure all test reports are submitted with sufficient time for care labels to be printed aligning with bulk production
  • Chasing in base and bulk reports
  • Assessing the product to pre-empt any issues and advising any additional tests that need to be carried out
  • Ability to read and approve mill and lab test reports against self portrait testing manual
  • Understanding of global testing requirements
  • Keep up to date with Reach compliance and relevant regulations (Prop 65) etc
  • Take responsibility for approving care label artwork
  • Chase factories for sustainable fabric certifications ensuring these are always kept in date
