Zimmermann has a newly created opportunity for a lawyer with employment law experience to join our legal team, based in Sydney. 

Zimmermann currently operates its own boutiques across Australia, the USA, the EU (France, Italy, Spain), UK and China, as well as offices in Sydney, New York and Paris. It also sells to wholesale partners and online. Given the brand’s growth, particularly in the US and across the EU, a rare opportunity has arisen for a mid-level employment lawyer to support on a global basis across employment matters.

Reporting to our Head of Legal, you will be responsible for: 

  • Advising on legal and regulatory requirements relevant to employment law;
  • Keeping up to date on key legal and regulatory requirements relevant to employment law across all jurisdictions in which the brand operates, in particular the USA and EU; 
  • Advising and working on policies, practices and processes, workplace relations, employment agreements and fair work practices;
  • Drafting, negotiating and reviewing employment and contractor agreements;
  • Identifying and navigating future risks on employment matters;
  • Advising on and assisting in internal investigations;
  • Assisting to manage risk, disputes and claims regarding employment issues;
  • Working closely with HR and Retail teams in Australia, the USA and the EU/UK;
  • Working closely with legal and HR providers across all jurisdictions;
  • Advising and representing on client disputes, returns policies and consumer law issues; 
  • Providing general commercial law support to the business, particularly on contract drafting and review; 
  • Providing legal support to the business across a range of other areas as necessary, which may include property leasing, CSR compliance and consumer laws in different jurisdictions.

This opportunity would suit a mid-level lawyer, with either in-house or private practice experience in a dedicated employment law function. Experience working in the USA, or exposure to the USA would be viewed favourably. 

We are open to full-time or part-time availability. 

What you will bring to the role: 

  • Admission as a solicitor in either Australia or USA with 3-6 years PQE;
  • Training at a reputable private practice firm, or in a similar in-house role, in Australia or USA;
  • Dedicated employment law experience (Australia or the USA) – a mix of front-end and back-end experience would be ideal;
  • General commercial law experience, particularly in contract drafting and review;  
  • You are a clear communicator with exceptional attention to detail;
  • You are proactive, solutions oriented and organised;
  • You can upskill in relation to employment matters in new jurisdictions;
  • You thrive on working within a team environment and you can develop strong relationships with internal and external team members;
  • You are adaptable and enjoy working across employment law and non-employment law matters.
