Overview:

The Managing Counsel, Data Protection Officer will report directly to the General Counsel and serve as senior legal advisor on all data privacy matters. Key responsibilities will include serving as the global data protection officer, handling worldwide privacy policies and programs, supporting the information security, digital marketing, e-commerce and technology teams, and running commercial contracts affecting data privacy. In addition, the Managing Counsel will provide support on merchandising, licensing and marketing/public relations matters.

Location: This position is located in-person with some hybrid at our Corporate Headquarters in New York or possibility of working out of the Parsippany, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead privacy policies and programs, track legislation, run operational compliance and remediation, and advise on the collection, retention and use of customer and employee data
  • Handle privacy-related litigation and regulatory matters
  • Draft, negotiate and review commercial contracts affecting data privacy
  • Support information security and technology teams, working closely with the Chief Information Security Officer, as well as digital marketing and e-commerce teams
  • Support digital marketing/e-commerce and technology projects, including ad tech, brand analytics, third party match, search engine optimization, expansion of digital commerce operations to new markets, advancement of enterprise information management, implementation of embedded products/services and similar matters


Required Qualifications:
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Admitted to the New York state bar
  • 5-8+ years of professional experience with a law firm or in-house legal department focusing on data privacy
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver complex legal advice in a business-friendly manner
  • Ability to balance large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Law firm and in-house experience
  • In-house experience in a retail environment
  • Must be eager and able to learn new areas of law and how they intersect with the business.
