The Department & Team

The Omnichannel product development team drives the discovery, design, development, improvement and maintenance of all Omnichannel and retail products (consumers & employees services and tooling). The team identifies and scopes problems to offer solutions for an improved consumer experience and always strives for a more efficient operating model.

Partnering with the tech department, this team prioritizes the initiatives and problems to solve and steers the development teams to ensure the maximum value is delivered to the business.

The team drives complex and innovative initiatives and products, which sit across multiple departments and technologies. The team is composed of Product Managers, Product Owners and Product Specialists and Project Managers leading business and technical team members working under agile/scrum methodology. The team environment is dynamic, open and value oriented.

The Position

The Director Digital Retail Experience position reports into the Senior Director Omnichannel Development and will be responsible for the long term strategy and execution of the domain.

Further, the role is managing a team of currently 8 team members as well as managing an important vendor relationship (value of over 2 million annually) to drive successful end to end execution of the products within the pillar. In more detail the role is about:

  • Ownership of the long-term product vision & product strategy for the pillar portfolio, setting out the purpose for the Digital Retail Experience team.
  • Focus on bridging between the online and off-line world for the brands consumers in stores - always striving to delight the customer and improve the experience in store
  • Responsible for the innovation, operational excellence, performance and evolution of all digital retail experiences including but not limited to the in store digital brand experiences, digital selling solutions & membership and loyalty solutions.
  • Translate company strategy to actionable direction for the teams and anticipate challenges ahead, removing roadblocks for your team as you progress
  • Own the product portfolio, identify and drive prioritization of new initiatives based on business & user value, scalability and needs from our regions
  • Ensure proper scoping and pitching of product proposals for any innovations
  • Ensure product adoption through strong change management and transformation activities
  • Build and lead a team of product managers, product designers, project managers, and operations specialists to evolve our digital retail experience products to deliver innovation & value for our customers and business teams.
  • Guide and coach team members to further develop their professional and personal skills to achieve their goals, including development plans.
  • Ensure that the multidisciplinary individuals in your teams work closely together and foster a good team relationship. Drive strong collaboration and alignment with the other product pillars (Retail Foundational Systems & Omnichannel Services & Platform) Further, a seamless bond with tech and engineering is critical to the role.
  • Model and encourage collaboration for your team, to build bridges throughout the organization.
  • Communicate and influence across the organization making sure purpose, value of the product portfolio and change management initiatives are understood through best in class stakeholder management incl. senior management
  • Be the single point of contact for your product pillar. Build a strong network at all levels and in all regions, understand business needs, capture feedback and further develop your portfolio to bring value to stakeholders and the organization.
  • Own and manage your team finances, determine yearly needs, overlook vendor rates and ensure costs are within allocated budget
  • Responsible for the relationship with new and current vendors you work with. Including MSA/NDA/SLA and other legal documents with vendors.
  • Be a guide and champion of Design Thinking and Agile product development and guide other stakeholders to learn and adopt those methodologies.
  • Passion for new technologies and eagerness to drive innovation. Use creativity to solve challenges and be on the lookout to find new ways to improve consumer shopping experiences.

This position will need to forge strong partnerships and collaboration with the tech department, who steer the system roadmap, with the strategy team which shares direction on the overall Omnichannel business strategy. It is key to have a strategic view on the business priorities and on the team processes.

The Ideal Candidate description:
  • Approximately 7 - 10 years' relevant experience' in a product driven team and organization, including 2 - 4 years leading / coaching a team
  • Experience in product & program/project management with a track record of driving cross-functional, complex projects within agile and waterfall methodologies
  • Appetite for technology & innovation coupled with a process oriented mindset
  • Highly structured and organized
  • Strong team player
  • Outstanding people and relationship skills; and ability to interact with different levels of a multi-cultural, international organization
  • Open, charismatic and winning personality to be able to handle various stakeholders across the organization and to communicate successfully with stakeholders across levels and cultures
