Job Details

Overview:

The Managing Counsel, Intellectual Property will report directly to the General Counsel and serve as senior legal advisor on all intellectual property and marketing matters. Principal responsibilities will include management of the company's global IP portfolio, providing day-to-day advice on all IP matters, and advising the marketing, public relations, digital commerce and product development teams on IP-related matters. The Managing Counsel will be encouraged to think strategically, work independently and communicate effectively with senior management.

Please note: Must already be admitted to the New York state bar

Location: This position is located in-person with some hybrid at our Corporate Headquarters in New York or possibility of working out of the Parsippany, NJ location.

Key Responsibilities:

Intellectual property management
  • Provide day-to-day advice on all IP matters, including adoption and use of trademarks, copyrights and patents
  • Lead the company's global intellectual property portfolio, including all prosecution and enforcement matters
  • Supervise external counsel and liaise with internal brand protection teams
  • Handle trademark searches and clearances
  • Draft cease and desist letters and negotiate with third parties
  • Supervise external IP counsel providing advice and representing Tiffany in litigation in the US and across 30+ countries


Marketing/public relations/digital commerce
  • Advise on all aspects of advertising, media and PR matters, including claim substantiation, endorsement/sponsorship disclosures, media usage rights and third party IP clearance
  • Draft and negotiate marketing and PR agreements such as agency engagements, sponsorships and endorsements
  • Run legal review and negotiate agreements for high-profile campaigns, activations and events, including talent and production agreements


Product development
  • Lead the legal evaluation of all new designs and collection extensions and refreshes
  • Advise and lead product collaborations and licensing agreements


Required Qualifications:
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Admitted to the New York state bar
  • 5-8+ years of professional experience with a law firm or in-house legal department focusing on data privacy
  • Outstanding writing, drafting and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use good judgment and demonstrate attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver complex legal advice in a business-friendly manner
  • Ability to balance large volume of work through effective time management and prioritization


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Law firm and in-house experience
  • In-house experience in a retail environment
  • Must be eager and able to learn new areas of law and how they intersect with the business
