Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the Counselor Associate provides a broad range of administrative services and direct student support within the center. The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for student triage, promoting counseling services and mental health initiatives on FIT's social media platforms.

Essential Functions:
  • Triage all inquires by conducting a brief screening of students with emergencies, and/or with urgent or critical concerns.
  • Alert crisis intervention team (so they can pursue hospitalization as needed and provide counseling follow-up).
  • Alert Director of Counseling/counseling staff to any urgent cases.
  • Present screened walk-in cases twice weekly at case disposition meetings.
  • Develop workshops for and conduct informational sessions for students regarding counseling services on campus.
  • Provide direct referrals to FIT supportive services including Tutoring, the Writing and Speaking Studio and Health Services Nutritionist.
  • Facilitate referral of students to counselors (assist with making an appointment).
  • Facilitate referral of students to community providers (provide a list of psychotherapy and/or psychiatric community resources).

Office Management and Administrative Support
  • Assist with front desk coverage, greet students, answer the telephone for the Counseling Center main line, and schedule appointments with counselors.
  • Coordinate assessment measures including the C-CAPS and the Same Day Walk-in Form.
  • Assist with data collection and compiling data for departmental bimonthly reports.
  • Analyze clinical workflow using EMR software to aid in program development and to assess the efficacy of the service delivery to enhance student learning and retention efforts.
  • Conduct weekly FIT community outreach via social media; post stories and tips on wellness and promote Counseling Center offerings.
  • Supervise the social media student worker.
  • Update and maintain the FIT Counseling Center website.
  • Identify and implement multimedia resources to support Counseling Center services and programming, i.e., incorporate podcasts on department website.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining database of referral and community resource options.
  • Approve employee timesheets on behalf of the director.
  • Assist with budget requests.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, sociology or a related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience working with diverse adolescents or college population.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to multicultural, gender identity, underprivileged, LGBTQ, and trauma issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with the college community.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and represent the Counseling Center at campus-wide events.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel), Google applications and social media platforms such as Instagram.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in counseling or social work preferred.
  • Experience in a college mental health setting.
  • Experience with inpatient facilities or hospital setting.
  • Digital native, familiar with posting and messaging on a variety of social media platforms.

Additional Information:

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
Salary Schedule 92
Hiring Salary: $60,685 per year
