JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax Processing and Statutory Accounting is responsible for ensuring all in scope regulatory submissions are completed accurately and in accordance with legal deadlines e.g. VAT, Intrastat and the timely production, sign-off and submission of statutory accounts globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Manager, Indirect Tax Processing and Statutory Accounting will be responsible for:

• Ensuring all in scope regulatory submissions are completed accurately and in accordance with legal deadlines e.g. VAT, Intrastat, other tax returns, etc.
• Ensuring the success of the end-to-end project plan for the timely production, sign-off and submission of statutory accounts across the group
• Ensuring timely submission of information to support VAT Claims/tax audits/statutory accounts production and managing issues in relation to this
• Managing escalations around ad hoc requests
• Ensuring outputs required by other teams (e.g. Transfer Pricing requests) are delivered on time and to the required quality.
• Monitoring and reporting upon the adequacy and effectiveness of processes around Indirect tax compliance and statutory accounts processing and working with appropriate stakeholders to remediate any deficiencies
• Leading internal and external stakeholder relationships (e.g. IT, Tax Team, Co Sec.) and to oversee successful service delivery. This includes liaising with external auditors to improve the processes around statutory audits to ensure statutory accounts are up to date and completed in line with required deadlines
• Managing and leading the team, including any outsourced providers, prioritising workload effectively to ensure timely and cost effective delivery
• Leading the design, development, embedding and documentation of the Indirect Tax Processing and Statutory Accounting team
• Leading the team to ensure there is clarity about roles, goals, timescales and standards and that work is carried out to expected standards
• Acting as the Indirect Tax Processing and Statutory Accounting subject matter expert for Finance across projects, change initiatives, changes to laws and regulations and other ad-hoc initiatives as they arise
• Leading the change management programme for process optimisation around tax compliance and statutory accounting activities
• Staying abreast of best practice Indirect Tax and Statutory Accounting processing concepts, technology and methodologies and ensuring these are implemented at Burberry to the extent possible
• Consistently challenging the business on ways of working to ensure an efficient and effective Indirect Tax and Statutory Accounting control environment exists
• Proactively seeking and leveraging feedback from the stakeholders, as well as the delivery team, to inform future delivery of services

PERSONAL PROFILE

• Professional accounting qualification is required e.g. ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA or CPA
• Proven experience in leading teams, including history of hiring, training, motivating and retaining personnel. Can provide examples of effective leadership and getting the best out of people, including during demanding and unsettling periods of change (experience leading and/or building a team in a Shared Service environment preferred)
• Strong technical statutory accounting and indirect tax experience required ideally across multiple geographies
• Experience of leading successful projects (change management and delivery projects). Must be able to fully grasp the broader issues and provide functional guidance to those reporting to them, rather than rely on their own technical skill set
• Has track record and appetite for delivering continuous improvement. Can provide examples of having led local changes as a means of achieving strategic-level goals. Able to generate commitment to change amongst own team
• Has built strong and sustainable relationships with a range of external stakeholders and influenced them effectively. Can provide evidence of working collaboratively across all levels of the organisation
• Strong technical understanding of IT systems and processes - SAP knowledge is a plus
• Uses a wide variety of techniques to influence a range of internal and external, technical and non-technical stakeholders across a range of strategic-level issues. Able to establish personal credibility at all levels
• Has strong negotiation skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills especially stakeholder management
• Builds and maintains effective relationships through interpersonal skills and technical expertise to aid cross-functional working, delivery and a sense of collaboration and teamwork
• Can operate both at the strategic and, where required, detailed level. Thinks conceptually and identifies and addresses future challenges and opportunities, often in an ambiguous environment
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and operational demands
• Proactively asks for and acts on personal feedback, developing a high level of self-awareness
• Strong demonstrable affinity for technology's ability to drive efficiencies and enhance service delivery
