Essential Duties & Responsibilities
EMPLOYER: Ralph Lauren Corporation TITLE: Designer, Lauren- Women's Footwear DUTIES: Execute seasonal footwear rigs and presentations. Execute presentation quality sketches and color renderings to thoughtfully illustrate new designs, concepts, hardware and details for presentation purposes. Create seasonal CADs for both internal and external meetings. Research the market regularly for innovative ideas, competitive product awareness and pricing in order to produce creative and compelling products that will help grow the business. Collaborate with Design Director and VP to initiate interesting and original concepts through tear sheets, material swatches, vintage or contemporary references and new sketches. Manage and oversee the development and execution of design concept boards, inspirational materials, trend analysis and the creation of seasonal presentation boards. Manage and execute design packages, full-scale specs and complete tech packs including all technical and materialization information needed for factories to produce the product. Manage and comment on all seasonal color lab dips and materials. Partner with Merchandising and Product Management teams in all aspects of development from sketches and prototypes to final market samples. Collaborate with the Accessories and Ready-To-Wear (RTW) teams to ensure our brand's message is clear and cohesive. Provide clear communication to partnering teams, vendors and factories in Asia throughout all phases of the design process. Conceptualize, design and fully spec new hardware development. Oversee updates to product changes throughout the season, i.e. color changes, quality changes, pattern and detail changes that might influence price, quantity and delivery. Work within seasonal deadlines and design calendar milestones. Attend all prototype reviews & fittings and update information to partnering teams as needed. Maintain and organize all seasonal information and archive library to ensure all records are store properly. Attend seasonal RTW concept rigs and showroom walk-throughs. Up to 2 trips required to Asia per year. Partial telecommuting permitted. LOCATION: Ralph Lauren Corporation, 601 West 26th Street, New York, NY 10001. REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Accessory Design, Fashion Design or a related field and 2 years of experience as a footwear designer for a Commercial Footwear Design Company, including 2 years of experience in the following: generating realistic computer rendered CADS for design presentations via Photoshop & Illustrator; partnering with and presenting to Senior Leadership; hand sketching; footwear pattern making; all types of footwear constructions; commercializing seasonal trends to fit our consumer's needs; and working with international vendors, factories and sourcing materials. Requires 1 year of experience with: technical sneaker and outsole design; Rhino and the creating/development of new hardware; and working and sourcing sustainable materials and components.
