Overview

The Business of Fashion is seeking an Editorial Apprentice to provide journalism and other support to our newsrooms in New York and London. This is an exciting, 12-month opportunity to join a driven editorial team that has a razor-sharp focus on delivering scoops, agenda-setting intelligence, analysis and advice for the global fashion community. 

With an analytical and meticulous approach to work, you will have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of journalism and a passion for the fashion business. You will also have an ability to fuse creativity with accuracy, and exceptional professionalism and integrity to both contribute to, and benefit from The Business of Fashion’s annual editorial apprenticeship programme. Reporting to our news and features editor in New York, you’ll be supporting our global teams with copy editing, article production and image research while monitoring and writing about daily news along with occasional feature writing assignments. Candidates should be based in or willing to relocate to New York.

What We Need You To Do

During this 12-month apprenticeship, you will be accountable for:

  • The smooth running of NY operations along with close collaboration with the London operations team, ensuring a smooth handover between teams every day 
  • Timely and accurate production and formatting of articles in our in-house CMS system
  • Image research and coordination with reporters and editors to identify the aesthetic needs of articles
  • Preparing BoF’s daily morning newsletter along with other topic-led weekly newsletters
  • Proofreading and copy editing stories to ensure they are free of errors
  • Writing daily spot news and other content as needed, potentially requiring reporting and attending events
  • Timely and accurate production and formatting of articles in our in-house CMS system
  • Monitoring newswires and other sources throughout the daily news cycles for stories to include on site
  • Supporting journalists with research
  • Supporting social media team with posting
  • Assisting with event-driven projects, such as BoF500 and BoF VOICES.

Who You Are

You are embarking on your journalism / editorial journey, with a passion for best-in-class publishing. With effective communication skills and an energetic can-do attitude, you perform well under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.

Outside of that, you will have the following skills that will help set you up for success:

  • Clear, concise and accurate writing in various formats, including short-form news
  • Exceptional proofreading and copy editing skills
  • A nose for relevant news stories
  • A creative flair reflected in image selection and presentation and chart ideas
  • An understanding of Photoshop, along with online publishing tools
  • An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • A willingness to occasionally work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of a 24-hour news cycle
