The Director, Compensation provides strategic leadership of the Compensation function by developing, implementing, and maintaining base and variable pay programs to support the People Services strategy, and leading a team of Compensation professionals to administer compensation programs at all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities & Duties
  • Manage staff and functions for executive, corporate, group operations, and store compensation programs and services within Neiman Marcus Group's Total Rewards department
  • Support executive compensation programs, assist in preparations for Compensation Committee meetings, oversee and participate in analytics and program design activities
  • Administer base pay plans and annual compensation planning processes
  • Support design and administration of incentive programs, including annual bonus plans, commission and sales bonus plans, and other variable pay plans
  • Oversee job evaluation, market pricing, survey compilations, and other processes related to design and maintenance of compensation programs
  • Oversee administration of related programs, including severance plans, sales contests, employment offers, and others
  • Partner closely with internal team members including Finance, Operations, Merchandising, People Services, and Legal to develop and implement compensation programs


  • Exemplary customer service orientation, including demonstrated ability to lead self and a team that consistently delivers high-quality solutions adapted to the needs of the business
  • Advanced consulting skills, including the ability to effectively scope and lead cross-functional projects,
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, and ability to effectively interact with a wide range of individuals ranging
  • Strong financial and technical acumen, including strong working knowledge of legal, regulatory and governance requirements, and industry benchmarking and best practices
  • Advanced level knowledge of Excel
  • Bachelor's degree in HR management, finance, economics, business administration, or related field; M.A. or MBA is a plus
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience working with broad range of compensation, preferably in retail industry or other multi-unit employer
  • Minimum of 6 years of people management experience.
