TECHNICAL DESIGNER – NEW YORK BASED

The Technical Designer will follow two collections seasonally and work from proto through QC shipper. Categories include wovens, cut and sew, knitwear and unisex. This position will report to the Production Director.

TECHNICAL DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

  • Working directly with the design team across women’s wovens, knits, cut and sew jersey and unisex garments to capture design intention
  • Creating initial design spec and tech pack for P1 launch
  • Working between design and pattern maker to include all information needed to create a successful first prototype
  • Advise technical make and seaming construction when needed
  • Originating spec and using classic block measurements when needed – creating consistency across styles
  • Update POM technical drawings when needed
  • Update illustrator technical drawings when needed
  • Accurately measure all samples
  • Work with vendors to ensure POMs are all clear
  • Note all spec measurements throughout proto through QC sample
  • Attend all fittings through development and production
  • Help design team resolve fit issues across multi-product category
  • Establish a block system with offshore vendors Aid proto launch in the offseason

PRODUCTION

  • Create all fit comments for fittings through proto to PPS
  • Video calls with overseas vendors and run through comments and explain any details when needed
  • Ensure spec and grading consistencies across all products
  • Create final sealed spec and create a grading chart for all vendors. Troubleshoot any concerns and update charts throughout the production process
  • Call in industrialized graded patterns from offshore vendors and graded spec to store in the internal library for future use

QC

  • Measure all shipper/TOP samples against graded spec
  • Check all BOM and trims details against the shipper and make comments ahead of fitting
  • Conduct quick fitting to capture any changes that can be made at the shipper/TOP stage that can be executed in production
  • Mark major discrepancies to the production team to ensure call back discounts
  • Create QC report with comments and callouts clearly to pass to 3rd party testing

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA/BFA degree
  • Minimum of 5 years in technical design with a desire to progress their career in technical design
  • Ability to grade styles
  • Strong collaborative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Illustrator technical drawing skills
  • Mandarin-speaking a bonus
