We are looking for an Ambitious, Commercial and Strategic Buying Manager ready for a new challenge with Brown Thomas Arnotts Fashion Buying Department.

The Fashions Buying Manager will be an inspiring market leader who will deliver on our commitment to Reinventing Retail and alongside the Buying team achieve an excellent product offering across womenswear categories that excites and enhances our customer’s lives.

As a curious individual and critical thinker, you will work with the Buying team to look beyond the obvious to identify opportunities and make sound decisions and strategic moves for the business. You will bring a leading edge to the Womenswear business curating an offering of the most exclusive Irish and International brands for Brown Thomas Arnotts. This is an opportunity for an experienced Buyer who has a genuine passion for luxury designer brands to join a talented and inspiring Buying team.  

  • Accountable for delivering a solid commercial and creative strategy for the womenswear business ensuring a seamless implementation and experience for the buying team
  • Work closely with the Fashion Buying Director to determine and implement a transformative Fashion Buying Policy through directing and coordinating the activities of the Buyers and ensuring that optimum quality merchandise is available in the quantities appropriate to achieving budgeted sales and gross profit
  • Accountable for buying decisions based on a sound commercial framework to drive sales and profit. To be aware of trends in public opinion, taste and understand their implications for the business. Applying your knowledge of Fashion Brands, you will lead and oversee the sourcing of our products – keeping us one-step ahead of our competitors
  • Analyse sales for the business and identify areas of improvements. Use your experience to manage and build commercial and business relationships with our suppliers and partners, monitor and evaluate existing suppliers
  • Ensure all vendor terms are managed ensuring monthly gross profit reports are checked, cost to sell and payroll terms are all being actioned correctly
  • Set clear targets for Buyers, monitor the results achieved and give continuous feedback. Ensure the team are fully informed on new directions in merchandise range
  • Have full oversight on high level stock related data and insights. Clearly define metrics such as Season forecasting, OTB, Stock levels, Stock clearance, RTV, Breakstocks and season forecasting across all brands
  • To be accountable for the movement of stock from vendor to supply change and store. To ensure all range planning is carefully managed to ensure there is product availability at all times
  • Be aware of competitors both bricks and mortar and online sites ensuring we are projecting our brand stronger and not missing any opportunities
  • To engage regularly with the Head of Digital and General Managers to ensure that merchandise is allocated to the correct space on and offline to achieve maximum return per square foot and is well presented.
  • Engage in regular floor walks to exchange information, receive feedback and take appropriate action based on performance
  • Partner with Marketing and Creative leaders to ensure the creative commitment is delivered and impact realised.
  • To plan merchandise promotions, advertising in consultation with Marketing, Buyers and General Managers.
  • To ensure Buyers follow correct ordering procedure and complete any administrative duties associated with their role.
  • Be aware and up to date with Selfridges Group terms to ensure we are on par or above in relation to our market exclusivity.
  • To contribute to the strategic planning and management of the business through working closely with other functions.
  • Regular meetings with the Managing Director and Executive Team to review priorities and update on progress
  • Foster an inclusive workplace and develop a strong buying team by supporting their growth. Assist in the recruitment, selection and appraisal of Buyers and Buying Office support teams.
  • To liaise with the Engagement, Learning and Development Manager regarding Buyers learning and development needs and to ensure ongoing support is given to maintain high level of performance and succession planning.
