Job Description:
  • Maintain the machinery in classrooms and labs- daily, weekly and monthly.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to students/faculty in the proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Repair and maintain Fashion Design's industrial sewing machines, irons and dress forms.
  • Replace needles and thread machines when needed.
  • Assist students in labs and classrooms with threading, jams in machines, dress form issues and iron issues.
  • Create and coordinate technician / mechanic schedules.
  • Change oil in sewing machines at the end of each semester.
  • Blow out all machines at the end of each semester (inside motor and inside machines).
  • Work with the Department and Chair on inventory needs.
  • Assess conditions of dress forms for maintenance and replacement.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional, mechanic and industry related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Reasonable fluency with machinery.
  • Must demonstrate hand skills and practical fluency with sewing machines and irons. This position requires a strong initiative and the ability to follow through, oversee and complete projects.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The position is on campus, primarily in an office or lab environment.

Additional Information:

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Starting Salary: $60,685 per year with step increments per Salary Schedule 92, after one year of service and annually thereafter.

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
