Job Description:

The Fashion Business Management program seeks a full-time tenure-track faculty member who is a business-driven professional with demonstrated leadership in the fashion and retail sectors, to teach undergraduate courses in the five key pillars of the program: leadership, product, merchandising, planning/analytics, and strategy.

Candidates will demonstrate a strong background in fashion business management with a focus on fashion analytics; providing students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, strategies, and practices in the field.

The successful candidate will be current in industry advancements and emerging trends with a passion for empowering students to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits while embracing academic scholarship. The primary responsibility will be teaching to deliver engaging lectures that promote active learning and encourage critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills; to develop and expand on curriculum in the areas of fashion analytics, planning and digital technology, merchandising strategies, brand development, and product development.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising students and identifying opportunities through mentoring, internships, seminars, and industry functions while cultivating strategic alliances with industry and other academic institutions.

The successful candidate will serve an integral role in the planning and implementation of the strategic goals for the program, participate in department, School, and college-wide committee service, and support accreditation and administrative activities as required.

  • Implement a rigorous academic experience by incorporating business practices with classroom learning.

  • Maintain strong connections within the industry to maintain currency for the introduction and integration of new methodologies into the curriculum.
  • Utilize the college's learning management system to maintain information required for assessment monitoring and stakeholder reporting.
  • Create experiences that require collaborative exercises, real-world problem-solving, and a skills-based approach to learning.
  • Incorporate instructional variety to service students of different learning styles, abilities, demographics, and/or diversity.

Learning Enrichment
  • Demonstrate the ability to inspire interest, curiosity, creativity, and love of learning in students.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods to foster critical thinking, design thinking, and creative problem-solving and team-building skills.
  • Incorporate interdisciplinary learning into the Fashion Business Management curriculum.
  • Demonstrate currency in the industry, including new technology, and the ability to incorporate those changes into a progressive curriculum.
  • Embrace new forms of pedagogy including online teaching, blended classes, workshops, flipped classrooms, and experiential learning.
  • Demonstrate the ability to support different student learning styles and abilities.

Professionalism
  • Maintain active participation and engagement in industry-related activities that inform and enhance the discipline.
  • Participate in conferences relevant to the business of fashion and its industries.
  • Maintain and foster a cultivated network of alumni and industry experts who will serve as a resource for internships, mentors, curriculum development, guest speakers, and placement opportunities for graduates.
  • Demonstrate currency and engagement in the primary teaching discipline.
  • Model professional behavior that prepares students for entry into related fields.

Technology
  • Utilize course management systems and demonstrate capability in utilizing multimedia technology in the classroom, and emerging technologies and business models for fashion business management.
  • Possess industry-specific technology skills and demonstrate effective use of technology and data to deliver course material and convey applied learning experiences to students, including but not limited to buying, planning, product management software, and data analytics technology.
  • Utilize appropriate technology to communicate with students and to engage them with the material outside the classroom.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have an MBA or master's degree in a field related to the fashion industry, or enrolled in a master's degree program, in progress, to completion.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in the fashion retail industry.
  • Experience in the area(s) of fashion analytics, planning and digital technology, merchandising strategies, brand development, and product management.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • College-level teaching or instructional experience.
  • Global expertise in the fashion business industry.

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) pg. 72

Instructor: $59,673- $69,524
Assistant Professor: $69,475- $102,388
Associate Professor: $81,317- $122,427
Professor: $99,159- $149,217

The College reserves the right to select one or more candidates after having been duly reviewed and presented to the President in conformance with the provisions of Article 15 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
