Job Description:

The Textile Development and Marketing program seeks a full-time tenure track-faculty member with proven credentials to teach courses in the areas of textile testing and quality assurance.

Candidates will demonstrate a strong background in the field of textile testing and quality assurance with the ability to integrate sustainability technologies and tools in the analysis of textiles and apparel into the curriculum. The candidate will have experience in teaching, training, or instruction, along with the desire to inspire and mentor our students to pursue careers in the textile industry.

The successful candidate will be current in industry practices, emerging technologies, and quality standards with the primary responsibility of teaching to deliver effective instructional materials and engaging teaching methodologies that promote active learning and encourage critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.

The candidate will have strong knowledge of the textile supply chain, product and project management, global marketing, and understanding and conveying the importance of sustainability in the textile industry. In addition to teaching specialty classes relating to testing and quality assurance, the successful candidate will teach courses in textile fundamentals and technology to non-textile majors serviced by the department.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, advising students, cultivating strategic alliances with industry and other academic institutions, and proficiency in laboratory management.

The candidate should have a strong interest in and motivation to develop and implement interdisciplinary coursework and research with a commitment to scholarship relating to the mission of the department.

The successful candidate will serve an integral role in the planning and implementation of the strategic goals for the program, participate in department, school, and college-wide committee service, and support accreditation and administrative activities as required.

  • Incorporate instructional variety to service students of different learning styles, abilities, demographics, and diversity.

  • Utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods to foster critical thinking, design thinking, and creative problem-solving and team-building skills.
  • Incorporate interdisciplinary learning into the Textile Development and Marketing curriculum.
  • Demonstrate currency in the industry, including new technology and the ability to incorporate changes into a progressive curriculum.
  • Embrace new forms of pedagogy including online teaching, blended classes, workshops, flipped classrooms, and experiential learning.

  • Utilize the Textile Development and Marketing laboratory facilities, including connecting academic assets to industry opportunities.

Technology
  • Utilize course management systems and demonstrate capability in utilizing multimedia technology to deliver course material and enhanced learning experiences to students.
  • Possess industry-specific technology skills and demonstrate effective utilization of standard textile testing and quality assurance equipment to deliver course content and convey applied learning concepts and experiences to students.
  • Incorporate new industry technologies related to the field of testing, analysis, and quality assurance of textiles.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the use of knitting machines such as Stoll and Brother knitting equipment.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with professional written, oral, visual, and technological presentation standards.


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Candidates must have a terminal degree with appropriate Ph.D. in a relevant discipline.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary research, research grants, and projects, and/or published articles relevant to fibers/polymers/textiles.
  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of professional experience in the global textile industry. Experience in the area(s) of textile testing, analysis, and quality assurance.
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in textile engineering, textile technology, material science, polymer chemistry, or textile chemistry.

The final starting salary and appointment rank will be based on education level and cumulative experience; Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) pg. 72

Assistant Professor: $69,475- $102,388
Associate Professor: $81,317- $122,427
Professor: $99,159- $149,217
