Position Overview:
The hollowware spinning apprentice will focus on safety, accuracy, quality, and production during the setup and operation of a spinning lathe to spin sterling silver circles into hollow forms using wood and steel tools based on production drawings. Spinners will participate in tool making, annealing, and repair using various materials (wood, steel, brass, silver, etc.).

Ability to work independently in a high-volume, fast-paced work atmosphere.
Problem-solving skills.
Ability to read blueprints and learn to effectively fabricate complex three-dimensional objects.
Computer literate.
Preferred Qualifications:
BFA/MFA in metals and jewelry
Spinning/machining/ fabrication experience

Position Overview:
The hollowware spinning apprentice will focus on safety, accuracy, quality, and production during the setup and operation of a spinning lathe to spin sterling silver circles into hollow forms using wood and steel tools based on production drawings. Spinners will participate in tool making, annealing, and repair using various materials (wood, steel, brass, silver, etc.).
Key Accountabilities:
- Always work safely by consistently following safe work procedures for your position, as well as all safety procedures required at your worksite. Promptly report all incidents and safety issues to your supervisor.
- While working at the spinning lathe, an apprentice will work cleanly and stay organized while interpreting production drawings and spinning Hollowware items based on the designs and tolerances set forth in the production artwork to meet company QA standards within prescribed production times.
- A focus on detail, in-process QA, and limiting inventory failure is necessary during the spinning and step-fitting process.
- Select the appropriate material and chucks, including break over, full, split, block, and trim chucks to accurately form spun components for Hollowware items. Maintain a uniform thickness, minimize spinning lines, and monitor the work hardness of the component during the spinning process.
- Anneal as needed to limit cracking and maintain the integrity of the material.
- Operate the machine lathe to create chucks and fixtures as well as machine components for finished goods.
- Organize and maintain all chucks and machining tools. Maintain a usable library of chucks by identifying worn-out chucks to be replaced and communicating appropriate technical information to the tooling drawing technician.
- Select the appropriate material to fabricate and machine all necessary spinning and machining tools (brass, steel, aluminum, wood etc.). Operate power and hand equipment, including the draw bench, band saw, disc and belt sander, power press, kick press, machining lathe, circle cutter, and any other tools essential to the job.
- Detailed focus on the organization of work instructions, drawings, and notes, capturing in-process images, and assisting in the writing of SOPs for new and existing products.
- Verify and record daily all individual production time spent on Production Work Orders, Development Work Orders and Engineering Work Orders.
- Provide management with work-in-progress updates and estimated completion schedules.
- Maintain a professional, positive, and respectful work environment while complying with company policies and procedures.
- Participate and carry out team tasks by helping co-workers where needed.
- Demonstrates competencies needed in Hollowware for tours and filming as needed.
- Perform other activities as directed.
