An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Legal & Compliance department as a Compliance Officer working within our small but dynamic Credit Compliance team.

Reporting to the Credit Compliance Manager, you will provide advice and support to the Next business relating to our credit products (NextPay, Next 3 Step) and our Credit Broking offering as well as helping to ensure our FCA-regulated activities are conducted in line with relevant legal and regulatory requirements and Next company policy. The team also has to stay close to new developments emerging from our regulators so that we can keep colleagues across the business up to date on any changes that might affect their area.

We are in constant communication with all areas of the organisation, having well-established relationships with relevant stakeholders, so we ideally need someone who has experience of working in an FCA-regulated environment, experienced with consumer credit as well as someone who has excellent communication skills.

The kinds of projects you might get involved with are:
  • Provide Legal and Regulatory guidance on new Next business initiatives
  • Review external sources of information, identifying any issues,or changes that may occur and inform and provide compliance advice to the Business
  • Review of new / existing Regulatory Requirements against current practice
  • Supporting the Compliance management team to implement and deliver effective policies and procedures within the Next business
  • Supporting the Compliance team in quarterly and annual planning of the compliance program
  • Assessing financial promotions against regulatory requirements
  • Developing project delivery plans to further the overall compliance program
  • Coordinating within the team and with the wider business to deliver against project plans


Key Responsibilities

Horizon scanning, operational readiness
  • Ensuring all regulatory requirements applicable to Next are understood, communicated and under management within the Compliance Framework
  • Developing and advising on the implementation of compliance policies and standards across the Next business

Advisory Services
  • Providing expert advice to key stakeholders on all compliance matters and their application within Next, mainly in connection with FCA obligations
  • Assessing financial promotions and incidents against regulatory requirements
  • Developing and delivering risk based FCA compliance awareness training company-wide that is tailored to the audience

Monitoring and Assurance
  • Informing and advising on high risk areas to the Compliance Monitoring Manager to ensure appropriate risk based coverage of their Monitoring plan

Risk Management
  • Ensuring the regulatory risk landscape is understood, regularly assessed and appropriately documented to facilitate effective management

Governance, Planning and Project Work
  • Supporting the Senior Compliance Officers in quarterly and annual planning of the compliance program and project delivery plans
  • Supporting the effective delivery of governance meetings

About you:
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, challenging, dynamic and demanding environment with changing priorities
  • Experience in FCA-regulated firms with an understanding of FCA requirements relating to consumer credit
  • Ability to interpret complex rules and guidance and understand the applicability to the Next business
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workloads whilst working to strict deadlines
  • Strategic thinker with analytical and problem solving abilities
  • Ability to build effective relationships with key stakeholders to assert influence to ensure regulatory activities are prioritised alongside other projects
