Job Description:

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Community Standards and Student Support, responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the residential student conduct process and advises our Residence Hall Association and community councils. The Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership aids in the critical incident follow-up for students, and supports the structure of Living Learning Communities. The Coordinator will work in conjunction with Residential Education Coordinators, Office Managers and Assistant Directors, to complete special projects as it relates to office management. The Coordinator of Community Standards and Student Leadership is not a live-on housing role, and does not participate in our emergency response on-call rotation.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:
  • Assists the Assistant Director of Community Standards and Student Support with the management of the residential student databases and critical incident post response.
  • Responds accordingly to all reported violations of the Student Code of Conduct as outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Tracks all incident reports to ensure reporting and compliance using Symplicity Advocate.
  • Ensures professional staff case outcomes are in alignment with the sanctioning guidelines.
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure the timely and thorough completion of conduct processes and case workflow.
  • Conducts disciplinary record reviews to ensure student leaders are in good standing with the Code of Conduct.
  • Assists in assessment of student conduct process.
  • Aids in creating educational sanctioning, including but not limited to the online learning modules for alcohol, substance usage, and fire safety education best practices.
  • Participate as an active member for institution and department wide committees geared towards implementing restorative justice best practices for student education.
  • Supports Assistant Director in developing preventative programming for the residential population at large, including sexual assault awareness, safety education, and more.
  • Reports to Assistant Director on concerns/incidents that may include intervention from the Dean of Students Office and Title IX Investigative Team.
  • Adjudicates lower-level conduct offense cases such as guest policy violations or residential mediations.
  • Assists in planning, advertising, and training of Resident Assistants and professional staff to conduct semesterly Health and Safety inspections.
  • Contribute to the department's training of paraprofessional staff, including leadership programming, Resident Assistant training, and all staff in-services.
  • Supports the department in all aspects of opening and closing of the residence halls.
  • Supports COVID-19 isolation process and student support follow up.

Student Leadership
  • Serve as a designated Co-Advisor for Residence Hall Association & Community Council Initiative.
  • Works with the Assistant Director to plan RHA Training/Community Council Training for Fall & Spring Semester.
  • Works with the Student Life Department to oversee the Residence Hall Association's club membership responsibilities and allocated budget.
  • Provides guidance, feedback, and logistical support for student leaders through bi-weekly meetings, one-on-ones.
  • Support advertising for the housing placement of residents in Living Learning Communities.
  • Participate in special large scale in-person programming initiatives throughout different points of the semester.

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree specifically in higher education, student development, counseling, social work, or related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of full-time experience in residential life, student conduct, student advising or related field.
  • Two or more years of experience with administration of campus conduct procedures & large scale event planning.
  • Excellent managerial, planning, supervisory, interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills.
  • Effective written, verbal and technological communication skills.
  • Knowledge in the areas of crisis intervention, conflict mediation, student and leadership development theory, student conduct administration, restorative practices, and safety and security programs.
  • Familiarity with State & Federal COVID policies & guidelines.
  • Knowledge of common and conduct-specific computer application programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability, equity, and social justice; experience working with a diverse student population, supporting the needs of marginalized students, and engaging students and staff on issues of diversity and social justice.
  • Knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act and other state and federal laws as they relate to residential life administration.
  • Engagement in the field of student affairs and higher education with an interest and willingness to learn, implement, and share best practices and new approaches.
  • Capacity to work in a 24-hour/7 day environment with the ability to quickly respond to and handle situations for the entire residential campus.
  • Positive attitude and excitement toward work. Ability to take initiative, work independently, and be a strong team member. The ideal candidate must have strong communication skills and be able to exercise sound judgment. A good sense of humor and a desire to laugh often are highly valued.

Starting Salary: $65,000.00 per year;compensation is commensurate with experience.

Staff in Residential Life are employees of the FIT Student Housing Corporation, a 501(c)(3) entity. Compensation and benefits are determined through the Housing Corporation governance process and are subject to change as such.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.

Evening and weekend commitments will be required to fulfill some of the duties of the position from time to time.

This position is considered to be an essential personnel position for the department, and as such, may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and/or the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
