The Position

The Senior Fabric Developer is responsible for the development from fabric selection and execution on our sales samples, in collaboration with Design and Merchandiser range plan.

The Senior fabric developer is in charge from all R&D in fabrics brief to our laundries to cover the needs defined by our Design direction and commercial needs.

The key objective is to be responsible for the total development in collaboration with design and follow up of collection process from first development to the delivery of samples and guarantee the quality achievement on fabric/fit level.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for delivery and timeline calendar steps.
  • Research and selection of fabrics with the mills.
  • Define price bracket for fabric research in line with target margin.
  • Participate in the key fabric fairs.
  • Define an offer at fabric level and matrix to cover merchandising plan. Responsible for collaborations and regional offers, making sure that we are leveraging efficiency in term of fabrics and vendors, based on our fabrics sourcing strategy.
  • Advises design regarding technical possibilities and limitations.
  • Works very closely with the mills to control the status and changes to the styles, follows up on deadlines for proto.
  • Responsible for tracking all proto standards for each season of Tommy Jeans and collaborations as well as pro-active planning.
  • Coordinates and ensures that all the systems are updated and matching as per internal information (Excel, PLM, etc).
  • PLM: the main system to generate all the material/style/product and production information.
  • Communication with offshore teams, regional offices, buying offices, design, product coordinator and merchandising.


The Ideal Candidate:
  • Background in Fabrics/Textiles and garment development
  • 5+ years working experience in fabric development
  • Solid mills base, Europe or Asia (Italian and Turkish mills would be a plus)
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and certifications.
  • Testing of fabrics, ideally to American global test standards
  • Highly organised, experience of working to multiple calendars
  • Fluent in English as it is the working language of out business. (Proficiency in Italian would be an advantage.)
