Job Description:

The position of Executive Director of Pre-college Programs is within the Division of Academic Affairs and is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of FIT's Pre-college Programs. The mission of pre-college programs is to introduce high school students to the specialized curriculum of FIT. These programs will expose students to the creative fields and allow them to test their interests and talents while giving them the opportunity to sample the college experience. The programs are offered primarily in the Summer with some shorter programming on Saturdays during the academic year. In addition, there are scholarships available through the Social Justice Center for eligible middle and high school students.

This position is responsible for coordinating the many facets of FIT's pre-college programs, and growing and expanding the repertoire of courses and the audiences we reach to enroll in the program offerings. Responsibilities range from the planning/execution of all academic pre-college programming, including identifying and hiring instructors, to coordinating pre-college operations such as marketing, communications, registration, and financial management. Special attention will be required to develop a pipeline of opportunities for students eligible for scholarships through the Social Justice Center. Similarly, coordination with the Office of Admissions, in particular the recruitment team, will be required to ensure that the pre-college experience builds a pathway to pursue additional pre-college programming and ultimately enrollment at FIT.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
  • Manages and leads all Pre-college Programs in collaboration with the Office of Academic Affairs and the Office of the President including planning, implementing, and assessing outreach efforts to meet FIT's mission and strategic initiatives, with a focus on the Social Justice Center needs.
  • Leads the planning and implementation of current pre-college offerings as well as the recruitment outreach to new audiences and expanded curricular areas. Travels to various locations to recruit high school students.
  • Collaborates with academic departments and other stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities and implement innovative programs which are responsive to the current needs and interests of precollege students and their families.
  • Responsible for managing all budget and fiscal affairs of programs.
  • Responsible for employing analytics and tracking mechanisms to report on programming and enrollment metrics, leveraging data to ensure expectations are being met and continuously improving programs.
  • Supervises a professional team to provide daily operational support for the office, the programs, and the faculty and staff. Ensures coordination of sensitive and urgent items and that the office is providing exceptional service to students and families.
  • Works with the Communications and External Relations department in developing marketing strategies; ensures that pre-college programs are represented in admissions communications.
  • In coordination with the Admissions office and Registrar, designs and implements workflow process for student recruitment and enrollment, with an emphasis on admission application/portfolio development, marketing and communications strategy and materials, admissions processing, and reporting and analysis.
  • Develops and maintains the policy and procedures handbook and trains staff to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Represents FIT on-campus and off-campus during travel for the institution, recruitment, professional conferences, and related events.
  • Attends evening and weekend programs (outside of regular business hours) to support pre-college/admission programs, undergraduate student, and institutional events.
  • On-call responsibilities for emergency and non-emergency situations for the Pre-College staff, faculty, students, and their families which may require availability to be on-campus at times during the summer session.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends), high volume periods, and be on-call for emergency operating issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, business, or a related field, with a master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible managerial experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience in program development and implementation, preferably in a higher education.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven experience in developing, leading, and maintaining a business/program strategy and robust promotional programs to support enrollment and customer satisfaction.
  • Proven success in managing, motivating, and supporting creative people and building a cohesive team.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, listening abilities, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Innovative and creative thinker with passion with demonstrated ability to "get things done" and proactively identify opportunities; is motivated by challenges and opportunities.
  • Strong analytical, presentation, and interpretative skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant electronic tools and software including Google applications, MS Office suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), etc.

Additional Information:

Salary: $125,000 - $135,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
