Job Description

The Vice President of Men’s Buying and Merch Planning for Ralph Lauren North America is responsible for the successful development, communication, and execution of Merchandise Buying and Planning strategies and goals for all men’s product categories within the Ralph Lauren Ecommerce and Ralph Lauren Stores divisions. This individual will set the organization’s buying vision and its execution in order to meet or exceed financial goals and customer expectations. Motivates and inspires all functional teams to be customer-focused, innovative, fast, and team-oriented in their work. He/she will share key learnings and drive change initiatives across the business, and acts as the primary filter between the Global Merchandising & Brand Planning organization and the North America Retail Stores and Ecommerce divisions.

Accountabilities:

  • Set annual and seasonal strategic direction including financials

  • Financial Accountability: Deliver GM$, Retail Sales and OI Targets for areas of responsibility

  • Deliver compelling product assortments that are brand enhancing and customer focused

  • Partner closely with Merchandise Planning leader and team for business development, annual plans, and LRP

  • Develop and retain talent. Coach & develop and provide guidance to Senior Directors/Buyers who manage in-season product management

  • Partner with GBP and Global Merchandising teams

  • Leads the initiative to collaborate cross region with business partners and inter-company peers

    Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate competitive landscape, analyze customer research findings and consistently evaluate current store assortments in the RL Family & make recommendations accordingly

  • Product assortment, strategic selection and creation, identify areas of opportunity based on previous season analysis

  • Partner with planning, visual, brand presentation, design, marketing, and merchandising to ensure goals are aligned during the buy process as well as in season

  • Weekly Business Reviews, Monthly Forecast Reviews, Shifting/Chasing/Reacting

  • Visual presentation adjustments

  • Continually evaluate & implement new business opportunities

  • Understand how business decisions impact cross functional business partners

  • Develop and Mentor direct reports. Ensure that direct reports are developing and mentoring all team members & actively manage goals and development plans

  • Evaluate and develop winning processes that will enable long-term growth; generate enthusiasm and support ideas/visions that facilitate growth

  • Create and maintain a cooperative and motivating team environment that promotes high performance standards and attainment of goals

  • Place growth and development of team as a top priority; identify high-potential talent and build their path for success in the organization

The Ideal Candidate

  • 15 + years’ experience

  • Bachelors’ Degree required; MBA a plus

  • Communicates clearly in oral and written form
