Job Description

The Designer I, Childrens Accessories, is responsible for designing and developing all accessories for boys and girls seasonally.

Responsibilities:

  • Interprets the seasonal color and concept and works with the rest of the childrens design team on the development of the season
  • Creates and illustrates designs based on original ideas and the needs of the business
  • Must have a broad knowledge of construction, materials, washes and trims as they relate to the below listed categories, in order to best achieve the brand aesthetic within specific price restraints: bags, duffle bags, handbags, hats, socks, underwear, footwear, cold weather accessories
  • Builds positive cross-functional relationships to ensure desired delivery and execution outcome is achieved
  • Researches and identifies new approaches and trends, exhibiting passion for the industry
  • Knowledgeable of hand off procedures and sample round approval processes relative to lead times and deliveries
  • Collaborates with Graphic Design and CAD teams, Childrens Apparel designers and Adult Accessories designers
  • Creates neat presentation boards for review, is comfortable presenting to groups
  • Exhibits flexibility to accommodate emerging opportunities in the business and areas of acceleration in the calendar
  • Ability to handle multiple seasons and multiple categories with adherence to calendar and deadlines
  • Must be able to problem solve by coming up with ways to cost engineer designs without losing the design intent
  • Responsible for communicating comments on strikeoffs/ patterns/ colors/ styles to production and merchandising
  • Responsible for color dip approvals and call-outs
  • Responsible for local market research on current trends and competitor assortments

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Fashion Design
  • 5+ years in Accessories and/ or Apparel Design related experience
  • Childrens accessories experience preferred       
  • Strong technical experience in accessories and/ or garment construction
  • Must have proficient knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, Excel, Web PDM/PLM
  • Ability to sketch flats and create techpacks in Illustrator
  • Must be self-motivated and good at time management
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and able to manage a large assortment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • 3D design experience is a plus
  • Must be self-motivated, trustworthy, team player, flexible, organized, and professional at all times
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

Language skills

  1. English, Native or bilingual proficiency
