Position Description

The Patternmaker (Extended Sizes) is responsible for creating new silhouettes that reflect the design aesthetic and support innovation, new concepts, proportion and design details for the Brand. The Patternmaker (Extended Sizes) collaborates with Design to obtain direction on desired design aesthetic and fit intent and is responsible for drafting patterns or draping these silhouettes. Patternmakers need to execute to the brand standard to ensure consistency in fit, construction and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Translate 2D Design concept from sketch form into a 3D product by developing a pattern that takes into account fabric and construction to create the desired silhouette and extended size proportion
  • Collaborate with Design to obtain clear direction and consensus on design aesthetic, fit intent and construction
  • Responsible for draping or drafting patterns for new seasonal silhouettes that reflect the fit and balance for the Brand
  • Lead Development fit sessions on live model and work with Design to achieve design aesthetic and communicate fit and balance to cross functional partners
  • Engineer garments for bulk production while maintaining Vince construction and quality  standards
  • Effectively communicate fit intent, balance and construction to Director of Design Development, samplemakers and Technical Designers
  • Identify potential production, quality or costing issues and make appropriate recommendations while maintaining design and fit intent
  • Ensure size and fit consistency for Development fit models
  • Manage workflow and ensure seasonal deadlines are met
  • Participate in departmental and cross functional meetings
  • Identify and proactively surface and communicate business issues to cross functional partners and provide recommendations and solutions to ensure deliverables are met
  • Anticipate when to escalate issues to manager and provide timely and accurate information to ensure quick decision making and resolution
  • Understand the competition and provide research and analysis in current and future trends and technology in the marketplace
  • Foster open communication and team environment with all cross functional partners and receive constructive feedback
  • Hold self and others accountable for work commitments and outcomes

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications / Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Patternmaking
  • 12- 15 years experience in the apparel industry as a patternmaker or draper
  • Subject Matter Expert in Development or Production patternmaking, construction and fit for multiple products
  • Knowledge of and experience working with extended size fittings
  • Relationship Management: ability to build constructive and effective relationships with all cross functional partners
  • Presentation Skills: ability to effectively communicate fit to Design
  • Influencing and Negotiation:  ability to present ideas and direction that lead others to action
  • Planning and Priority Setting: ability to organize work appropriately to meet and exceed department goals and objectives
  • Process Management: ability to follow process to get things done efficiently and effectively complete workload
  • Possess strong organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional listening, written and oral communication skills
  • Systems and Tool Acumen:
    • Proficiency in computer patternmaking programs: Gerber, Lectra, Tukatech
    • Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS Word
  • Ability to travel as required
