Job Description

The Finance Assistant role sits in the finance team reporting to the CFO. Predominantly responsible for the accuracy of financials and delivery of month end, this role will also be working with other teams in the business to support the growth and delivery of results.

Role Accountabilities:

  •  Ensuring maintenance of GL in accounting system
  • Validate and post accruals at month end based on feedback from budget holders
  • Enforce PO policy and provide training to new starters
  • Support the CFO in developing the finance function; developing controls, processes & reporting
  • Manage month end process and communicate deliverables to the rest of the business
  • Maintenance of fixed asset register – creating assets, validating depreciation schedule, monthly postings
  • Support the CFO in monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support the business in investigating and analysing variances and providing explanations
  • Business partner the function owners, ensuring cost reports are accurate, timely, and issues are addressed and resolved promptly
  • Drive cost control best practices and ethos to the wider business
  • Frequently review key processes; recommend actions to improve and implement as appropriate
  • Invoice & shipping support
  • Manage AP process including:
  • Processing expense claims
  • Processing of stock and overhead invoices
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Setting up new supplier accounts
  • Credit card statement coding
  • HMRC VAT filings
  • Seek systems and process automation efficiencies that provide cost effective solutions
  • Plan, prioritise and deliver work in a way that meets or exceeds business requirements

The Ideal Candidate

Key Selection Criteria:

·         Ideally ACA/ACCA/CIMA finalist or qualified

·         Knowledge of UK accounting standards is essential

·         Management of month end processes experience essential

·         Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel 

·         Flexible & proactive, able to drive improvements through to completion

·         Positive ‘can-do’ attitude

·         Ability to work under pressure and be deadline driven

·         Retail experience is highly desirable

·         Italian speaker desirable
