The Copywriter is responsible for creating the highest-quality, on-brand product descriptions for Tory Burch. This position plays a key role as dedicated writer and point person for product copy through its entire life cycle, from early design inspiration through the fashion show to publishing date through upkeep, integral to the support of global brand expansion and awareness. The copy must inspire and inform the customer as well as the internal team — both providing the best service, narrative and style tips and communicating the inspiration behind the brand, seasonal collections and trends. The copy must elegantly marry editorial content and commerce.
Write and edit product copy and style tips, as well as implement edits and feedback.
Inject seasonal inspiration into copy; research trends so copy reflects marketplace and cultural relevance.
Write and edit standardized boilerplate language for key looks that can be used throughout multiple product categories and business channels (emails, web, lookbooks).
Track all product copy throughout the editing process and work closely with the copy editor. Note any missing styles, late adds, revisions. Prepare all documents for reviews.
Maintain and organize the department’s seasonal product copy schedule and traffic all of its stages — from receipt of product knowledge to all phases of editing to ensuring that final copy is entered into the database system. Work closely with relevant teams — ecomm, merchants, buyers — to ensure deadlines are being met.
Write and filter all special product copy requests from other departments (hangtags for Design, store-exclusive product, special collections, PR projects, etc. — all related to product), and act as creative team expert on product.
Name products and collections as needed.
Edit designer Q&As for creative, PR and retail teams; send to merchants; handle all follow-up and disseminate final documents to appropriate departments.
Maintain and organize information about collection/products received from early pre–fashion show inspiration through various touchpoints with designers, merchandising and marketing.
Attend all merchandising collection presentation meetings on behalf of the copy team and organize all seasonal documents. Attend seasonal planning and weekly web production meetings as needed.
Review website for errors after each site refresh and make necessary updates.
Product Copy Maintenance
Upload approved product copy into our database system.
Proactively update product copy as needed, based on lookbooks, emails, site and style content, editorial features, new trends, feedback from customer service, reviews, etc. to ensure copy is always up to date with the latest information and there is consistency across all channels.
Maintain copy guidelines for online Details & Fit and Fabric & Care tabs by ensuring fabric descriptions are easily understandable and customer-friendly, and fabric content and care is listed according to our standards. Work closely with all merchants and web merchandising teams to suggest new fabric language where needed.
Serve as primary point-person for product copy and help disseminate product descriptions/style information across the business, working with merchandising, PR, buying, retail training and other teams that leverage product copy.
Forge strong working relationship with merchants, designers, stylists and marketing to ensure copy points are on message, including product detail info.
Write copy/brainstorm for various projects and initiatives, as needed, including email, site copy and captions, special curated shops/sections, style-related content for blog and site, fashion show, etc.
Suggest editorial style features and content based on deep knowledge of collection.
Maintain and adhere to brand copy guidelines/voice standard manual for domestic and international.
The Ideal Candidate
EDUCATION & PRIOR EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 - 5 years of proven experience of editorial and/or retail writing
- Ability to work on Mac and use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. and work with user-friendly content management system
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write clearly, concisely and easily, as well as the ability to self-edit, top-edit, line-edit, copy-edit and sense-check text
- Deep understanding and knowledge of style, fashion, luxury, culture, beauty and home
- Online fluency (websites, blogs, etc.) and the curiosity to learn more
- Knowledge of trends
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with different types of people and departments
- Superb organization skills, with meticulous attention to details and deadlines
- Ability to multi-task, adapt and re-prioritize according to rapidly growing company needs
