Job Description

Jack Victor Limited’s Robert Barakett sportswear division is offering an exciting opportunity for a Men’s Sportswear Merchandiser to join our team. Founded over 20 years ago by Montreal-based designer Robert Barakett, the Robert Barakett collection is a full men’s premium sportswear offering with a focus on knit tops, including the iconic Barakett T, polos, henleys, zips, hoodies and sweaters. The brand balances exceptional premium quality fabrics with accessible price points, expressing a DNA comprised of a subtle, luxurious color palette, sophisticated detailing and modern styling. The brand uses the tag line “Quiet Confidence” to describe its’ products’ attitude.   The collection is distributed at over 130 better specialty and leading department stores, as well as the brand’s own ecommerce site. This role will be based out of Montreal.

  • Proactively identify growth opportunities in the assortment based on the brand’s historical performance (weekly sales and portal analysis), market trends, account requests, and competitive products, all consistent with the brand’s DNA.
  • Grow the business by building a product line assortment (Range Plan) that focuses on brand strengths, core products and best opportunities for selling, profitability and reinforcing brand position.
  • Guide the assortment strategy by influencing decisions at every stage of the product development lifecycle including suggestions relating to product design including style, fabric and trim, and any design details that can add perceived value to the product.
  • Assist with garment design from the sourcing and selection of fabrics and trims to the building of tech packs to the follow up with suppliers.
  • Work with the designer throughout the season to maximize the assortment mix of knits, wovens and bottoms creating cohesive "groups" by continually reviewing product, model, color and target price points.
  • Establish and implement a merchandising timeline.
  • Assist in developing a seasonal Range Plan, including wholesale and retail prices.
  • Focus the sampling process to be a tight appropriate mix with the proper assortment of classifications, modeling and color for both selling samples and showroom visual merchandising.
  • Review and edit proto samples to represent a clear and focused presentation.
  • Offer suggestions, changes, and production perspectives to improve products and maximize potential. 
  • Help to manage the appropriate, fit to balance aesthetic and practical considerations.
  • Execute a pricing matrix for each category based on sales results and realistic opportunities. 
  • Work to build profitable products that fit into the appropriate pricing matrix for the product and the brand.
  • Develop special cut assortments for select targeted distristribution
  • Assist in fabric development and design
  • Assist in sourcing additional factories/suppliers to achieve correct assortment strategy 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Retail Merchandising, Business or related field
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Strong product knowledge and experience in men’s knit, woven sportswear and bottoms
  • An understanding of the North American retail buying calendar, wholesale/retail markup structures, key national and regional market participants and the men’s premium sportswear consumer
  • 4-6 years’ experience in men’s sportswear, merchandising or product development
  • Working knowledge of knit and woven apparel manufacturing, product features and benefits, yarn types and construction as well as associated costs
  • Visionary with a good sense of color and style
  • Exemplary planning and time management skills, well organized
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
  • High level English verbal and written communications skills
  • Team player attitude with positive energy, stress resistance and confidence
  • Ability to deliver results against tight and complex timelines
