Job Description

MZ Wallace is seeking a Merchandiser to lead product and merchandising strategy.  This position develops the seasonal assortment plan and leads the line planning process in order to maximize the development of the brand, sales, and profits across all channels.  This role reports to the COO/CFO. 


  • Collaborate with design and marketing to develop annual product road map in addition to monthly promotional plans to support revenue and brand growth, achieve gross margin targets, and manage inventory to optimize the core and seasonal product investments
  • Ensure the successful implementation of merchandising strategies by creating merchandising assortment plans and advising design team on seasonal and core product assortment goals across all channels
  • Participate in financial planning and budget meetings, and manage inventory levels of seasonal and core styles
  • Perform competitor and market analysis by researching competitors, price points, and emerging trends to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
  • Ensure brand vision is reflected in product strategy
  • Thoroughly understand the brand’s target customer by tracking attitude and lifestyle trends. Bring customer insights and market perspective to the design and product development process to drive product improvements and changes
  • Partner with business channels to ensure business needs are filled through product assortments, and guide creation of seasonal buys
  • Partner with design team to develop and present a cohesive and detailed seasonal overview to the cross-functional teams, which communicates product introductions and focuses, design themes, key color stories, and key buys. Give clear guidance to marketing team on seasonal brand messaging
  • Provide leadership, direction, and product knowledge to cross-functional teams in all areas pertinent to merchandise. Be present in key team and account meetings
  • Recap and communicate style/color selling, identify/analyze best/worst sellers and sales/inventory issues, and make markdown recommendations
  • Project future production and inventory needs and partner with production and logistics to plan production capacity and resource allocation

Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in merchandising role (women’s accessories preferred)
  • BS or BA degree preferred
  • Strong interest in fashion, and the evolving digital/retail landscape
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • A collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • A creative, strategic thinker with impeccable attention to detail
  • Independent leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs, including Excel
  • NetSuite experience a plus
