Job Description

Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Retail Strategy and Operations will be responsible for developing a retail strategy that drives innovation and establishes SSENSE as a leader in redefining the role of physical stores.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a retail strategy that positions SSENSE as an industry leader and supports the business and brand objectives
  • Partner with the Brand Strategy and Customer Experience teams to define the physical retail experience and optimal store model
  • Work with the Director of Real Estate Developments and International Program Manager to implement a retail expansion strategy and execution plan including site selection, store design and timelines
  • Partner with the Technology and Product Management teams to conceptualize and develop mobile store applications
  • Define and establish methods, processes and tools for proper alignment of physical retail to the rest of the organization
  • Foster an agile culture and a continuous improvement framework including data collection, insight generation and execution rollout
  • Establish data tracking mechanisms and partner with the Analytics team to drive empirical insights in order to improve experience and increase engagement
  • Lead an R&D internal team to develop a library of prototype tools for future use
  • Create performance dashboards including sales and engagement tracking
  • Establish go to market strategies for store openings
  • Manage calendar of events and ensure proper alignment of retail schedule with marketing, editorial and communications teams
  • Lead and mentor the retail teams to deliver a best in class service and performance
  • Establish training and development programs for the retail team to ensure consistent service levels
  • Stay abreast of developments in retail, customer experience and technology

The Ideal Candidate

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, Masters preferred
  • Expertise in multi-channel marketing including communication strategy, segmentation, CRM, lifecycle marketing & customer retention strategy – where experience with omni-channel retailers work is highly valued.
  • Seven or more years of management and leadership experience working in other similar retail environments
  • Strong marketer with knowledge in respective marketing disciplines
  • Experience in the luxury industry
  • Experience working in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment

  • Demonstrated analytical prowess – with strong Excel skills to derive data driven recommendations, interpret business case financial modelling and analyze performance
  • Strong, effective communicator capable of blending creative expression and critical analysis in making compelling recommendations
  • Strong strategic, leadership and management skills with a strong focus on results
  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic, continuous improvement environment
