Since 1774, we’ve been thinking of ways that we – the inventor of the footbed – can make the lives of our customers better and richer – with a good shoe for all conceivable situations in life. In a primarily price-driven consumer world, dominated by cheap products, BIRKENSTOCK, with it’s premium-quality products, offers a reasonable alternative for those who place value in functionality, durability and sustainability.

We manufacture our sandals in Germany in our own production facilities with an extensive amount of work done by hand. Every sandal undergoes 17 single production steps before the finished product is ready. It takes well over 100 highly skilled production steps for our closed-toe models. These high-quality products are made in manufactories in Portugal in accordance with the principles of a centuries-old tradition of hand craftsmanship.

Whether produced by hand or using industrial methods – all BIRKENSTOCK products meet the highest quality standards in the shoe industry anywhere in the world. This applies just as much to our sandals and closed-toe shoes as it does to our bags and socks.
