Milano Fashion Institute has been set up in 2007 by Bocconi University (ranked 1st Italian Business School, Financial Times, 2015), Politecnico di Milano University (1st Italian Engineering & Technology University, QS Ranking, 2015) and Cattolica University, as the first Italian Inter-university Institute for High Education for the Fashion industry.

This is the reason why MFI, as students affectionately call it, is a unique initiative in Europe. All the University Masters are based on a multidisciplinary approach that includes fashion management, fashion design and fashion communication, and are focused on the management of clearly identified processes of fashion companies: Brand & Product Management, Brand & Business Management, Brand & Communication Management.

The Faculty, with its primary role in the international scene, is composed of Professors and Researchers of the three founding universities, along with successful managers coming from the fashion job market, combining together rigorous method and job market awareness and deep process knowledge.

The goal is to create professionals that are formed on the basis of transversality and interdisciplinary approach, thanks to a strong interaction with the fashion system too.

In 2012, the educational and didactic model of Milano Fashion Institute becomes a case study presented during the event "Designed Asia 2012", Hong Kong, organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design. 

In 2017, the first short courses on key strategic issues are launched: New Sustainable Fashion, Fashion Law, The Italian System.
