Darshan Mehta is president and chief executive of Reliance Brands (a subsidiary of the Indian conglomerate Reliance Industries) which has partnered with international brands including Ermenegildo Zegna, Diesel, Paul & Shark and Kenneth Cole to open stores (online and off) targeting the expanding Indian market.
Reliance Brands has also spearheaded a "home shopping" programme to reach consumers in smaller cities, appointing "champions" who take appointments and visit individual homes to show merchandise and take orders.
Mehta entered the fashion industry by chance; a chartered accountant by profession, he joined the Lalbhai Group in 1984 as chief financial officer. Mehta would stay with the group for the next 23 years, acting as chief executive officer of Anagram Securities Ltd from 1998 to 2007, before being appointed chief executive of Arvind Brands PVT Ltd. He left the role to join Reliance Brands.
