Eminent Hong Kong businessman Dr Victor K Fung is chairman of Fung Group, a large-scale consumer goods enterprise with multiple private and publicly traded subsidiaries in trading, exports, logistics, manufacturing and retail. Founded by his grandfather Fung Pak Liu in Guangzhou as a trading company and exporter of Chinese goods to the United States in 1906, today, the group is involved mainly with garment manufacturing, as well as value-added distribution and supply chain management throughout the mainland.
Fung is also honorary chairman of Trinity Limited, a luxury menswear retailer that oversees distribution for brands like Gieves & Hawkes and Cerruti 1881 in China. Trinity Limited is a publicly-listed company under privately-held Fung Retailing Limited. The latter is part of the Fung Group, and is separate from publicly-listed Li & Fung Limited.
Along with his brother William Fung, who is chairman of Li & Fung, Dr Fung is a private investor in various fashion brands under the investment group Fung Brands. They have acquired majority stakes in Belgian leather goods brand Delvaux, French accessories label Robert Clergerie and knitwear label Sonia Rykiel.
Dr Fung has also held a variety of civic positions, most recently as the chairman of the University of Hong Kong, and formerly as chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. He is also an honorary chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and a non-executive director at jewellery company Chow Tai Fook and the Bank of China. Educated at the Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT) and Harvard, Dr Fung taught at Harvard Business School before returning to his native Hong Kong in 1976 to run the family business. He is married with three grown children.
