What is the BoF 500?

The BoF 500 is the definitive professional index of the people shaping the $2.4 trillion fashion industry, hand-selected by the editors of The Business of Fashion, based on hundreds of nominations received from current BoF 500 members, extensive data analysis and research.

Jason Bolden is the stylist responsible for dressing some of the most influential artists and entertainers in Hollywood, including Selma’s director Ava Duvernay, actress and activist Yara Shahidi and actress Taraji P. Henson.

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Bolden moved to Chicago to study pre-med at Northwestern University, but transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago soon after. To support himself, he worked at Cynthia Rowley, Louis Vuitton and Gucci, where Bolden built up a client list of high-net worth individuals.

He soon moved to New York, where he opened The Garment Room, a vintage store in Soho, where he curated vintage collections and worked directly with designers. Bolden’s big break came unexpectedly: after developing a friendship with actress Gabrielle Union, she asked him to style her for Art Basel in 2011. He then became the stylist of Taraji P. Henson, actress Sasha Lane and Yara Shahidi.

Bolden is known for creating fashion moments for his clients while maintaining their individual style and strategically building their aesthetic. He is also a red-carpet commentator for E! and has co-founded JSN Studio, a multi-disciplinary design studio, with his partner Adair Curtis.

Jason was recognised as one of Hollywood Reporter’s Top 25 Most Powerful Stylists in 2017.
