Luhan

Singer, Actor

The pop star boasts a huge social media following and is considered a key channel between brands and the Chinese millennial consumer.

Biography

Lu Han, also known by the mononym Luhan, is a Korean pop star with a powerful social media presence; his 60 million followers on Weibo speak to his celebrity-influencer status, and have led him to become one of the most in-demand Chinese personalities among luxury brands.

The Beijing native left China for South Korea’s Seoul Arts College after high school. Lu was approached by an SM Entertainment scout at Myeong-dong, the city’s shopping hub, and embarked his pop career as a member of boy band EXO-M. In 2014, however, Lu terminated his contract with SM Entertainment and left EXO-M, going on to release a solo album the following year. The album went on to be the first to go Platinum in mainland China.

Lu is a well-recognised face in the fashion industry. He has covered a number of major fashion magazines, including GQ China, Harper’s Bazaar China, Elle China, Marie Claire China and Vogue Me, and fronted campaigns for the likes of Cartier, Balmain, Gap, L’Oreal and Lancome. In 2016 he landed the launch issue cover of Vogue Me, a sister publication of Vogue China aimed at a younger audience. “[Lu], with his personality and unique point of view, is an authentic post-nineties generation representative,” says the title’s editor-in-chief Angelica Cheung .

Lu has also turned his hand to acting. In addition to appearing on a number of domestic reality television shows, he has starred in films including “The Witness” and “The Great Wall.”
