Paul Hanlon has built up a reputation for innovative hair styling. Working as a freelance stylist for 12 years, his handiwork — often the undone cool girl look — is a staple on the catwalks of all the major fashion weeks, as well as on the covers of magazines like Love and American Vogue. Hanlon regularly contributes to the pages of titles such as Interview, V, W and Vogue Paris and Italia.
Born in Birmingham, Hanlon worked in a local salon to get a grounding in old school cutting and styling. But it wasn’t long until he moved to London with his sights set on the fashion industry. His flair, ambition and technical training meant Hanlon was soon working alongside some of the industry’s most important session hair stylists.
Today, Hanlon’s client list includes the photographers Craig McDean , Mert and Marcus and Steven Klein . He has created catwalk looks for designers like Louis Vuitton, Proenza Schoueler, Moschino and Calvin Klein — his slicked back wet-hair style at Marni’s Spring/Summer 2015 show was much emulated — and he has contributed to campaigns for Calvin Klein, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Hanlon was also the hair stylist behind Justin Bieber’s famed “My Calvins” campaign in 2015.
