Global Fashion School Rankings 2015

Pratt Institute

New York, United States

The Pratt Institute was the first to offer a fashion programme in higher education in the United States. As an applied and fine arts college, students who matriculate at Pratt have abundant opportunities to collaborate with other artistic disciplines during their studies. The institute also reports a student-teacher ratio of six to one. The fact it is an art school with a fashion programme, rather than a fashion-focused institution, explains students’ concerns about the institution’s provision of relevant business education; still, the college has an exceptionally high graduate employment rate.

Student & Alumni Comments

"They teach the aspects of design practice very well, but leave out any business or outer-world aid."

Alumni

"I think I had some great teachers but I learned no business. The technical skills and drawing got removed as I moved up in the programme. I think it has turned into a very alternative based fashion design programme, rather than learning real world skills."

Alumni

"Very creative and conceptual. The workload was very intense, which prepared me well for the future."

Alumni

"Great student body and engaging teachers."

Alumni

"I learned how fashion was developed and made hands on. My sewing skills went through the roof!"

Alumni

"Overall, my experience at Pratt Institute was positive, however I would have been better prepared had I been offered arts administration and business of fashion courses."

Alumni

"I love going to Pratt, it was probably one of the best decisions I have every made. However, there should be more studio space and they should offer business and marketing classes."
