Global Fashion School Rankings 2016

Central Saint Martins

London, United Kingdom

The internationally-renowned centre for arts and design education has one of the most established reputations in fashion education, scoring the highest in influence in our global BA survey. Fashion-related BA and MA courses range from fashion design, to communication and promotion, to journalism. Student comments identified that peer-to-peer learning was an intrinsic part of the school experience. Students rated the school’s teaching resources highly, however, CSM performed below average in the international perspective of its curriculum, and in its provision of marketing, business and sustainability education. In addition, over 80 percent of postgraduate students surveyed said they felt prepared for the industry, while about 70 percent of BA students felt prepared. CSM’s continuing ability to identify and nurture excellence is beyond doubt — currently, over half of London Fashion Week designers are CSM graduates, while its alumni include a number of the most influential names in fashion.

Student & Alumni Comments

"It was very creative and we were encouraged to explore. However, more could be done to prepare students for the different career path options they have."

Student

"Roller coaster. Hard work. Big rewards. Challenged. Every project was a challenge and breakthrough."

Alumni

"Brilliant place full of incredibly creative, interesting people. But be prepared to work very independently."

Alumni

"MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins was a very difficult and demanding course, that required a lot of dedication. The course completely lives up to it's reputation, giving students opportunity to work with the best tutors, industry based companies and it pushes students to achieve the best results. The course has helped me find a much needed direction for my work and prepared me to work in the industry. "

Alumni

"An amazing experience but not enough care and focus is given to individuals. There are now so many students and so little studio space, it's often difficult to even get a table space."

Student

"It was one of the toughest experiences of my life. The course director rung me out completely and left me to pick myself up and figure out who I truly am and what I want to do. The result was a beautiful collection and a well informed knowledge of my craft. Overall, the experience was fantastic."

Alumni

"I feel supported and challenged by my tutors and inspired daily by my fellow students. Diversity is a key element at Central Saint Martins. You learn how to communicate to a variety of different cultures and respect each others differences — an important skill if you work in design."
