The curriculum at Musashino Art University, located in Western Tokyo, focuses on Japanese design, including the traditional forms which inform Japanese and global design today. The majority of students in our survey expressed they were not satisfied with their work placements while attending the school. Courses in technical skills, marketing and business all received ratings far below the average ratings for schools in our survey. According to a student comment, the education at Musashino focuses more on conceptual thinking as opposed to practical skills. Students also expressed they were not satisfied with the overall quality of the student body, nor the level of international and gender diversity at the school. Although, with a student body that is 25 percent male and 75 percent female, it is above the average rate of diversity of schools in our ranking. Because of the school’s geographically isolated location, it hopes to establish exchanges with other world institutions, in order to develop a platform to display the students' work and the design aesthetic of the school.
